In 2008, Denis Durantou acquired this Château for which he fell in love at first sight. A splendid 12 hectare clay-limestone vineyard on the first line of the Dordogne hillside, Montlandrie is in Castillon (which it directly overlooks) the equivalent of Ausone in Saint-Émilion.
As in his other properties (L'Église-Clinet, Les Cruzelles, La Chenade...), Denis Durantou used all his know-how and perfectionism to produce a fresh and floral wine, with a crisp and juicy fruitiness. Few Bordeaux wines are as deserving of the term "vibrant wine" as Montlandrie.
The 2016 vintage is rated 93/100 by Jean-Marc Quarin "The best wine ever made. The score is exceptionally high for a wine produced in the Côtes de Castillon. Dark, intense, purple and beautiful colour. Intense, fine, fruity, pure and ripe nose. Meticulous on the attack and immediately noble in its feel and aromas as it develops, the wine evolves into a complex, energetic wine. It flies through the finish without ever losing its fullness. Superb. A wonderful Outsider". (February 2019).
80% Merlot, La Chenade is the almost second wine of the Cruzelles. Designed and conceived by Mr. Durantou (Église-Clinet), this is one of the best quality/price ratios on the entire right bank. In confidence!

Rated 92/100 by N. Martin «The 2020 La Chenade was very promising when I originally tasted it from barrel. In bottle since May, it has developed a lovely nose with melted red berry fruit, wild mint and light fennel scents. Nicely delieated and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. Extremely pure, very harmonious, this Lalande-de-Pomerol discretely crescendos towards its very satisfying, quite structured finish. Superb.» (December 2022)

» (Feb. 2022)

The 2021 vintage is rated 92/100 by Jean-Marc Quarin "Dark, intense purple colour. Very aromatic nose, with pure, ripe fruit, which reveals itself in depth when the glass is shaken. Meticulous on the attack, with a spring in the middle and refined aromas and tannins, this very well-crafted wine lingers on the finish, delicate and unapproachable. Good length". (April 2022).

The 2020 vintage is rated 93/100 by Jean-Marc Quarin "Beautiful dark red. Very aromatic nose, with ripe fruit. Hints of liquorice. Delicate on the palate, aromatic in the middle, with a melting body, the wine develops ascending and complex. Long, sappy, deep finish, with great flavour and no tannic angle". (March 2023).

The 2018 vintage is rated 93/100 by Jean-Marc Quarin "What a result! We owe it to the hand of man and to the effect of the 2018 climate on this superb predominantly limestone terroir. Dark, intense and beautiful colour. Intense, fine, powerful, deep and slightly truffled nose. Meticulous on the attack, very fruity on development, with a majestic touch, the wine evolves with restrained power towards a long, sappy finish with particularly well-balanced tannicity. A superb wine. Denis Durantou spares no effort in building a grand cru in this corner of Castillon". (March 2019).

Rated 91/100 by Neal Martin « The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very silky in texture with hints of Indian and brown spices towards the elegant finish. Approachable in style, drink this over the next decade. » (Feb. 2020)
» (Oct. 2020)

Mr. Durantou (owner of Église-Clinet who died in 2020) produced only 1500 cases per year of his remarkable Lalande de Pomerol Les Cruzelles. Incomparably superior to the neighbouring Pomerol of the same price.
The 2021 vintage is rated 93/100 by Neal Martin (vinous) "The 2021 Les Cruzelles is just as impressive as it was en primeur. The blend is 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, with the Franc very much front and center. Dried herbs, tobacco, cedar, new leather, menthol and licorice race across the palate. Deep and layered, with tons of dynamic energy, the 2021 is impeccably done." (February 2024).

Rated 93/100 by Antonio Galloni after bottling « Unctuous and flamboyantly ripe, with tons of intensity, the 2017 is another drop-dead gorgeous beauty in this range from Denis Durantou. » (March 2020)
» (Oct. 2020)
The second Pomerol of the late Mr. Durantou, made with wines from his Château L'Église-Clinet and the addition of neighboring plots. More than a second wine.

A talented and perfectionist winemaker, Denis Durantou, at the service of a great terroir on the edge of the church of Pomerol between Lafleur and Clinet. L'Église-Clinet is one of the most subtle Pomerols in terms of its aromatic precision, fine grain and satiny texture. Mr. Durantou passed away far too soon in 2020, but fortunately he has three daughters who are united and determined to continue their father's work.
2014 vintage rated 95/100 by Vinous "Maybe this will become a prettier l'Église-Clinet compared to the 2015".

The 2014 vintage is rated 94/100 by N. Martin "The 2014 L'Eglise-Clinet has a very beautiful nose, superior to that of the other Pomerols in this flight. It is fresher, more vigorous and has aromas of wild strawberry, cranberry, liquorice and cedar. It gains in definition in the glass. [...] This is the quintessential wine of the late Denis Durantou, who still has a bright future ahead of him. A second bottle tasted blind seemed a little drier on the finish." (February 2024)
