Owned by AXA Millésimes since 1987, Domaine de l'Arlot covers 15 hectares spread over Nuits-Saint-Georges (Prémeaux) and Vosne-Romanée. A domain of excellence producing dense reds but on chiselled structures, wines that are both fleshy and delicate at the same time. Domain rated two stars in the 2019 Revue du Vin de France guide.
Martin (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a pure bouquet of black cherries, raspberry and crushed strawberry, nicely focused and quite sensual in style. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannin, rather masculine in style for a Les Suchots but very tensile toward the mineral-driven, quite voluminous finish. »
100% viognier (45 years old vines) on five terroir : Paton, Chanson, Vernon, La Côte, La Bonnette. Maturing 8 months in new and one wine barrels. No fining, very light filtration.
Thanks to vines (Syrah) 60 years old, Mr. Tardieu produces a 'grand' Crozes-Hermitage. Divided between fruit and minerality, in a round and silky style more Burgundian than Rhodanian, a perfect introduction to the Hermitage.
100% Syrah (vines aged 60 years) blending 4 terroirs: Larnage, Battis, Gervans and Coteaux de Mercurol. Vinification 1/3 harvest not destemmed, maturing 12 months in new and one wine barrels then 6 months in tuns. No fining, no filtering.
Raynolds (Vinous) : 92-93/100 « Juicy and seamless in the mouth, offering bitter cherry, blackcurrant and spicecake flavors that show very good clarity and become sweeter as the wine opens up. Finishes on a sexy floral note, displaying strong tenacity, interwoven tannins and a late suggestion of olive. »
Perfect balance between the gourmet raspberry/cherry fruit (as in Hermitage) and the mineral tension of the schist and granite subsoil (as in Cornas). Syrah and serine (small syrah), aged 60 and over 100 years respectively.
100% syrah and serine (small syrah) aged from 60 to over 100 years on 6 terroirs from north to south of the appellation, from Chavaney to Mauves. Vinification 1/2 harvest not destemmed, maturing 12 months in new and one wine barrels then 8 months in tuns. No fining, no filtering.
Raynolds (Vinous) : 92-93/100 « Fleshy and broad on the palate but lively as well, offering intense blackberry, boysenberry flavors and a suave touch of candied flowers. Finishes seamless, juicy and impressively long, with an echo of violet and discreet tannins that add shape and subtle grip. (50% whole clusters). »
From Syrah and small Syrah aged 60 years minimum. The austerity due to the schistose soil is perfectly balanced here by Michel Tardieu's talent as a breeder. A model for the northern Rhône.
100% Syrah and Serine (small Syrah) aged from 60 to 100 years on 3 schist soils: Les Savaux, Les Chaillots and the lower slopes of Patou. Vinification 1/2 harvest not destemmed, maturing 24 months in new and one wine barrels. No fining, no filtration.
Raynolds (Vinous) : 92-93/100 « Broad and juicy on the palate, offering concentrated bitter cherry, cassis and violet pastille flavors and an energizing jolt of cracked pepper. Tightens up slowly with air and finishes smoky, chewy and quite long, with a lingering suggestion of candied cherry and solid tannic grip. (50% whole clusters). »
Blend of 70% Grenache aged 80 years, 20% Syrah (40 years) and 10% Mourvèdre (40 years), on the clay-limestone slopes of Rasteau, a fleshy, generous wine, typical southern Rhône.
70% grenache (vines aged 80 years), 20% syrah (40 years old) and 10% mourvèdre (40 years old), on the clay-limestone slopes of Rasteau. Vinification 1/3 harvest not destemmed, maturing 10 months in one wine or two wines barrels, then 10 months in tun. No fining, no filtration.
P.S.I. (Peter Sisseck Initiative) is the wine of a group of producers gathered by Mr. Sisseck (Dominio de Pingus) according to precise specifications: 100% tempranillo plots aged at least 30 years, necessarily cultivated in biodynamics. The objective is to rediscover the soul of Ribera del Duero, with gentle extractions, long macerations and a practically wood-free ageing process. A wine with superior fruitiness, finesse and great tannic sweetness.
Amazing story as that of Dominio de Pingus. Created in 1995 by Peter Sisseck, a Danish (!), this estate a few kilometres from Vega Sicilia has become a cult in less than 15 years.
Pingus is the great wine, made from the 4 ha of the estate, 100% tempranillo aged 70 years, biodynamic since 2000. 450 cases per year (an average yield of 10hl/ha, not counting small vintages, such as the 2002, totally downgraded in Flor de Pingus).
Taylor's is the most famous House producing so-called English style Ports, i. e. straight and slender (while Graham, the other big House of Porto, represents the Portuguese style, softer and sweeter).
Classic Vintage is a blend of their 3 historical quintas: Vargellas, Terra Feita and Junco. No vintage between 2011 and 2016.
Vintage 2017 has the elegant style that is both fruity and floral, elegant and precise, characteristic of Taylor's but with the scale and intensity of the vintage. After an explosion of pure and crisp fruit, the depth and aromatic complexity are remarkable, supported by firm but smooth tannins. Exceptional potential.
Taylor is the most famous House producing so-called English style Ports, i. e. straight and slender (while Graham, the other big House of Porto, represents the Portuguese style, softer and sweeter).
Vintage Old Vines (Vinha Velha) is a limited edition, about 300 cases, of the 5 oldest parcels of the historical quinta of Vargellas (planted between 1890 and 1930).
For the 8th time in its history, Taylor's declared in 2017 its Vintage cuvée de Vieilles Vignes (aged 80 to 120 years) of Quinta de Vargellas, the historical heart of the vineyard. Only 5600 bottles produced.
