Newsletters Futures 2017

In this category, we offer you the wines, renowned or not, which were not in our selection last year:

• either because they have been created recently;
• or because their price has become attractive again;
• or because they raised their quality standards.

In any case, they deserve your attention as they succeed to retain our attention. We bet that they will stay for a long time in our selection!

    Oenologist by training, Xavier Copel undertook in 1996 to enhance the great terroirs of the South-West by creating the "Primo Palatum" brand, with the help of renowned producers in each appellation such as Château Le Cèdre (Cahors), Domaine de Cauhapé (Jurançon), etc. After 12 vintages, he decided to put an end to this adventure, which was acclaimed on all sides.

    Since 2016, it has been back under its own brand "Xavier Copel" with a selection extended to wines from Bordeaux and Spain. And always the same qualitative ambition: a partnership with only one winegrower per appellation, a selection of old vines in native varieties, a "grand cru" ageing in Burgundy barrels. www.copelwines.com

    Regardless of its production in the Margaux appellation, Mille Roses also produces an Haut-Médoc on 4 parcels, 5.5 ha, around the Château. 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot giving a dashing, accessible and silky wine, finely wooded (25% new oak). And of course, driven organically since 2010.

    Galloni (Vinous) : 92-95/100 « The 2017 Clos L'Eglise is a wine that brings together power, tension and energy. There is quite a bit of richness to the fruit, but also plenty of supporting structure. »
    Martin (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very smooth in texture with a slightly lactic note towards the finish. There is a touch of dark chocolate that infuses the red berry fruit with a subtle liquorice tincture that lingers on the aftertaste. »

    Galloni (Vinous) : 91-94/100 « The 2017 Poesia is gorgeous. Dark, ample and inviting, the 2017 Poesia exudes richness and concentration from the very first taste. Succulent and yet also pulsating with energy, the 2017 possesses terrific balance. This is a gorgeous wine in the making. »
    Martin (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « There is a touch more floral notes (iris) than the 2016 with a little more red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity with fine detail. It is silky smooth in texture, suggesting a potentially very approachable Saint-Émilion with fine precision. »

    Burtschy : 91-92/100
    Galloni (Vinous) : 89-92/100 « The 2017 Bellefont-Belcier is deep, unctuous and powerful, with tremendous depth and structure to back up the fruit. This is the first vintage made by new owner Peter Kwok. »
    Martin (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « One bottle tasted just too ostentatious although another indicated that there is some composure, linearity and tension that prompted a more optimistic view and a higher banded score. »
