Owning the largest parcel (6 ha) of Clos Vougeot and the only producer vinifying and maturing its wines within the Clos, Château de la Tour is the custodian of the Clos Vougeot tradition. Always vinified unstemmed, its wines are powerful, structured and long-lasting, especially in the case of the Vieilles Vignes cuvée (100 years old!). Domain noted one star in the guide of the Revue du Vin de France.
Owned by AXA Millésimes since 1987, Domaine de l'Arlot covers 15 hectares spread over Nuits-Saint-Georges (Prémeaux) and Vosne-Romanée. A domain of excellence producing dense reds but on chiselled structures, wines that are both fleshy and delicate at the same time. Promoted three stars in the 2020 Revue du Vin de France guide.
Revue du Vin de France : 16,5-17/20 « Puissant, concentré, solaire mais équilibré, il faut l'encaver. »
Bourgogne Aujourd'hui : 14,5/20
Martin (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannins and fine depth. Very smooth in texture, with impressive harmony. It just needs a little more tension and personality toward the blackberry-driven finish; the Clos de l’Arlot is imbued with a little more charm at present. The tannins will need several years to soften, and then this will really show its mettle. »
François Labet, owner of Château de la Tour, is also in charge of the family vineyards (10 ha) on Gevrey and the Côte de Beaune, cultivated according to the principles of organic farming since 1992.
Described as a "must" by Bourgogne Aujourd'hui: "to be grasped urgently, as the quality of the wines has been shining through its regularity for a very long time".
50% marsanne (with 100 years old vines!) and 50% roussanne. On a background of honeyed and toasted notes, intense aromas of white flowers and quince, the freshness is well present and, in the mouth, the vivacity balances the roundness.
50% marsanne (50 to 100 years old) and 50% roussanne (40 years old and more), aged 12 months in new or one wine barrels. No fining and light filtration.
In 1994, Michel Tardieu began selecting and maturing wines from very old vines and from the best terroirs, following the precepts of his friend Dominique Laurent. While Laurent is known for the concentration of his Burgundy wines, Tardieu has, due to the innate power of Rhone Valley wines, sought to favour elegance and aromatic complexity in his selections. In addition, the luxurious maturation in high quality barrels is a perfect match for the wines of this region. Promoted to two stars in the 2020 Revue du Vin de France guide.
Splendid Hermitage white wine, 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne, with aromas of peach and acacia honey, with a characteristic touch of marzipan.
80% marsanne (60 and over years old vines), 20% roussanne (40 and over years old). Maturing 24 months in new and one wine barrels. No fining, very light filtration.
Thanks to vines (Syrah) 60 years old, Mr. Tardieu produces a 'grand' Crozes-Hermitage. Divided between fruit and minerality, in a round and silky style more Burgundian than Rhodanian, a perfect introduction to the Hermitage.
100% Syrah (vines aged 60 years) blending 4 terroirs: Larnage, Battis, Gervans and Coteaux de Mercurol. Vinification 1/3 harvest not destemmed, maturing 12 months in new and one wine barrels then 6 months in tuns. No fining, no filtering.
Perfect balance between the gourmet raspberry/cherry fruit (as in Hermitage) and the mineral tension of the schist and granite subsoil (as in Cornas). Syrah and serine (small syrah), aged 60 and over 100 years respectively.
100% syrah and serine (small syrah) aged from 60 to over 100 years on 6 terroirs from north to south of the appellation, from Chavaney to Mauves. Vinification 1/2 harvest not destemmed, maturing 12 months in new and one wine barrels then 8 months in tuns. No fining, no filtering.
From Syrah and small Syrah aged 60 years minimum. The austerity due to the schistose soil is perfectly balanced here by Michel Tardieu's talent as a breeder. A model for the northern Rhône.
100% Syrah and Serine (small Syrah) aged from 60 to 100 years on 3 schist soils: Les Savaux, Les Chaillots and the lower slopes of Patou. Vinification 1/2 harvest not destemmed, maturing 24 months in new and one wine barrels. No fining, no filtration.
A new cuvée created in 2017, a Côte-Rôtie from the heart of the hillside on the major terroirs of the Côte Brune. Phenomenal concentration, energetic tannin, a compact but refined wine, to wait at least 10 years before considering tasting.
100% serine (small syrah) aged 60 years and over, on 3 terroirs of Côte Brune : Landonne, Lancement, Chavaroche. Vinification 100% harvest not destemmed, maturing 12 months in new and one wine barrels then 12 months in tuns. No fining, no filtering.
More roundness and flesh than Côte-Rôtie, with a texture of fatty and melting tannins, the solar side of the Hermitage hillside is perfectly highlighted here.
100% syrah and serine (small syrah) aged 60 years on 3 terroirs : Début de Méal, Pierrelles, Diognières. Vinification 100% harvest destemmed, maturing 12 months in new and one wine barrels then 12 months in tuns. No fining, no filtering.
