Property of 6 ha in Côtes de Castillon acquired in 2011 by the oenologist M. Thienpont (Puyguéraud, Pavie-Macquin, Larcis-Ducasse, Berliquet, etc.). After 5 years of restructuring, Mr. Thienpont is finally proud of his wine and offers it for the first time in 2016. Even if Merlot is dominant (92%), Alcée stands out from its neighbours by its emphasis on finesse, minerality and distinction. A wine in length and not in width!

    Bettane & Desseauve : 92-93/100
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Quarin : 87/100 « Nez aromatique, au fruité crémeux. Jolie bouche moelleuse, savoureuse et particulièrement parfumée. Longueur normale, sans tannin marqué. »
Galloni (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « The 2019 Alcée is effusive and charming, especially in its aromatics, which are quite expressive. Rose petal, raspberry jam, spice and mint are all laced together in this silky, mid-weight Côtes de Castillon. Gracious and refined, Alcée is shaping up quite nicely. »

Les Trois Croix is the personal property of Mr. Léon, who was technical director of Mouton-Rothschild for more than 20 years. He is dedicated to producing straightforward, digestible Fronsacs, among the most elegant and distinguished in the sector. The dresses are not the darkest but the power and harmony are there. In confidence!

    Bettane & Desseauve : 90-91/100
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 88-90/100 « The 2019 Les Trois Croix is pliant, racy and super-expressive. Juicy, sweet red cherry and red plum fruit gives the 2019 plenty of immediacy »
Martin (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2019 Les Trois Croix has a perfumed and floral bouquet with wilted rose petal infusing the blue fruit. The palate is well balanced with supple tannins that disguise the backbone of this excellent Fronsac. »

80% Merlot, La Chenade is the almost second wine of the Cruzelles. Designed and conceived by Mr. Durantou (Église-Clinet), this is one of the best quality/price ratios on the entire right bank. In confidence!

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « The 2019 La Chenade is plump and voluptuous in the glass, with terrific fruit presence and tons of pure character. [...] Denis Durantou and his team coaxed an unreal level of finesse in 2019. »
Martin (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « Unlike Durantou's fellow Lalande-de-Pomerol, this is predominantly red fruit rather than black with exuberant raspberry and cranberry, almost pastille-like. The palate is extremely well balanced, maybe with a bit more structure and weight than Les Cruzelles. [...] Wonderful, as usual. »

Since its acquisition in 1998 by Mr. De Neipperg (Clos de l'Oratoire, Canon-La Gaffelière, La Mondotte), d'Aiguilhe has been part of the new generation of very ambitious wines that bring the appellation of the Côtes de Castillon to a new level.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 88-90/100 « The 2019 d'Aiguilhe is classy and understated to the core. [...] Quite surprisingly for the year, d'Aiguilhe is pretty tightly wound and in no mood to show all of its cards. Even so, there is good depth and plenty of promise. »
Martin (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « The palate has a spring in its step with fresh red berry fruit, cedar, mint and a citric twist right on the finish. What a delicious d'Aiguilhe, even if I still cannot pronounce its name. »

A 4 ha plot selection from Château Rigaud, La Mauriane is not yet another luxurious cuvée on the right bank but a wine built on fine grain tannins where the brilliance and precision of the fruit prevail.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :

Certified organic since 2015 and with a vineyard entirely biodynamic, Château de La Dauphine wishes, beyond its 350 years of history, to set an example of modern viticulture that is concerned about environmental issues.

    Bettane & Desseauve : 91-92/100
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Quarin : 87/100 « Bouche au corps tendre, fruitée, agréable »
Galloni (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « A wine of superb richness and volume, the 2019 is shaping up to be a real beauty. The more extroverted side of Fronsac comes through nicely here. »
Martin (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2019 de la Dauphine has a superb nose with pure blackberry, boysenberry and crushed stone aromas, hints of iris and violet emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, grainy tannins, fine depth and an unerring sense of symmetry on the finish. »

In the same family since 1609 (!), Moulin Haut-Laroque offers a disciplined Fronsac: ripe and rich without excess, softened by the sweetness of its Merlot (65%) and by a judicious breeding. A sure value of the appellation.

    Remarkable success in 2016.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 89-91/100 « The 2019 Moulin Haut-Laroque is a dark, sumptuous beauty. Blackberry jam, chocolate, licorice, spice and new leather all build effortlessly in the glass. The 2019 is unctuous and dense, not to mention incredibly appealing. »
Martin (Vinous) : 89-91/100 « The palate is well balanced with supple tannins, not amazingly complex but fresh with a lovely liquorice-tinged finish that lingers nicely. Promising. »

Beautiful vineyard of 10 ha (90% Merlot) in Fronsac, where the owner, Mrs. Rullier, invests herself without counting. We find his energy in Dalem, with wines, full and assertive but also endowed with a real elegance.

    Bettane & Desseauve : 92-93/100
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « The 2019 Dalem is a racy, sumptuous wine with no hard edges, tons of fruit density and impeccable balance. [...] The 2019 is impressive. Its as simple as that. »
Martin (Vinous) : 93-95/100 « The palate is well balanced with supple tannins, pin-point acidity and a harmonious, satin-textured finish that is pure delight. One of the best Dalems ever produced. Bravo. »

Begun in 2003, the Clos Louie adventure is a textbook case: doll vineyard (2.3 ha) on a beautiful clayey-limestone soil of Castillon, careful cultivation in biodynamics, double manual sorting during the harvest, vinification with little intervention, gentle maturing in half-masses of 500 litres. Louison et Léopoldine is the other wine from Clos Louie, made from the youngest vines (50 years old all the same), giving pride of place to Cabernet-Franc for a brilliant fruity taste and the promise of a quick-lasting gourmet pleasure.

Selection of the best parcels of Château de Carles (10 ha out of the 20 ha of the estate), certainly the finest and most ambitious wine of Fronsac, making since 2000 equal game with the best classified growths of the slopes of Saint-Émilion.

    Bettane & Desseauve :  93-94/100
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « The 2019 Haut-Carles is a fabulous expression of Fronsac. Rich and resonant, the 2019 possesses striking depth from start to finish. Inky dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, espresso, licorice and spice add character in an opulent, flamboyant wine. »
Martin (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « The palate is well balanced with fine grain tannins, well judged acidity. A harmonious Fronsac with a smooth texture that glides across the finish. This is a very well crafted Fronsac, though it needs 5-6 years in bottle. »
