Although very famous in the nineteenth century (vineyards adjoin those of Ch. Cantemerle), Belle-Vue no longer existed since 1936. Restored in 1996, Belle-Vue is a rising star of southern Medoc. Happy marriage between a high proportion (20%), Petit Verdot, for an explosive fruity, and careful breeding. Mrs. Mulliez implementation continues with the work of her late husband (too young) in 2010.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 89-91/100 « The 2019 Belle-Vue is a powerful, burly wine. [...] Hearty and dense, Belle-Vue is an ideal wine for the dinner table. It is perhaps a bit rambunctious and uncontrolled in its enthusiasm, and yet there is a certain beauty to that, as well. »
Martin (Vinous) : 84-86/100 « The palate has modest density and weight, fine acidity but I find the finish rather simplistic at the moment. »

Léoville-Barton did not have any attached cru bourgeois (such as Potensac/Léoville-Las Cases, Pibran/Pichon-Baron, Lalande-Borie/Ducru-Beaucaillou, etc.). This "gap" was filled in 2011 with the acquisition of a beautiful historical cru bourgeois de Moulis, Mauvesin, immediately renamed Mauvesin-Barton to show the Barton family's involvement in this new challenge. In all confidence!

Initiator of cold pre-fermentation maceration, Charmail has been offering for 20 years amazing wines of flesh and fruit, which have the particularity of being quickly accessible for Haut-Médoc wines.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « The 2019 Charmail is a very pretty and expressive Haut Médoc Cru Bourgeois. [...] A wine of real beauty, understatement and elegance, the 2019 is impeccable in its balance. This could be a sleeper. »
Martin (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « It is very well defined and "natural". The palate is fresh on the entry with breezy red berry fruit, well judged acidity, not powerful but bright and vivacious. »

Vinified in the cellars of Ch. Ducru-Beaucaillou, this cuvée benefits from the best care. Its higher proportion of Merlot (68%) makes it a wine of pleasure, gourmet and quickly enjoyable.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 86-88/100 « I would prefer to drink it on the young side, while the sweet floral, tobacco and cedary flavors remain fresh. The tannins are a bit strict, at least today. Tasted from a 100ml screwcap sample bottle. [...] I won't be surprised if the wines show better from a full bottle »
Martin (Vinous) : 89-91/100 « The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent opening. Fleshy and round, it offloads plenty of black fruit laced with white pepper exerting a gentle grip on the finish. I suspect this will be an approachable 2019 that will give a decade's worth of drinking pleasure. »

Belle-Vue (Haut-Médoc) has been making an original cuvée since 2016, 100% Petit Verdot, with its oldest vines (77 years old and over) of this wonderful fruity and late grape variety (hence its name), adapted to global warming.

Watch the presentation film (30''') of Petit-Verdot By BELLE-VUE

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « The 2019 Le Petit Verdot by Belle-Vue is once again one of the sleepers of the vintage. Rich in both fruit and tannin, the Petit Verdot is a wine for readers who enjoy bold, structured reds. Sweet tobacco, iron, dried flowers, red cherry preserves and scorched earth add lovely touches of savoriness. »
Martin (Vinous) : 86-88/100 « The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannins on the entry, nice 'n saline towards the finish with just the right amount of piquancy. Finishes better than it begins. »

With remarkable consistency, Potensac has been one of the most regular crus bourgeois in the northern Médoc for 30 years, proof of the know-how of the Léoville-Las Cases team (same owner). Its ability to age is always surprising, even and especially in the "early years".

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « The 2019 Potensac is a very elegant, refined wine. Medium in body yet wonderfully persistent, the 2019 is showing beautifully today. A backbone of tannin gives Potensac a feeling of energy that is quite appealing. »
Martin (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « Wild strawberry and raspberry preserve aromas make an impact on the nose that storms from the glass, a touch of pencil box in the background. The palate is well balanced with fine grain tannins, plenty of sappy red fruit that segues into darker fruit towards the strict finish. »

The incessant work of Mr. and Mrs. Dief since 2000 is bearing fruit today: in a tense and distinguished style, Clos Manou shines with a vibrant, deep energy, with pure and radiant fruit, combining length and density. Undoubtedly the most beautiful revelation of the northern Médoc in recent vintages.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Martin (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « There is something just a little Oriental about the aromatics. The palate is well balanced with saturated tannin. The acidity is certainly well judged and there is real body and depth towards the fresh and quite persistent finish. Excellent. »

Bought in 2008 by Mr. Cuvelier (Clos Fourtet), a new era began in Poujeaux under the leadership of Mr. Thienpont and Mr. Derenoncourt. By its elegance and velvety texture, Poujeaux can be confused when tasting with Saint-Julien.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Galloni (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « The 2019 Poujeaux is gorgeous. Pliant and radiant in the glass, with terrific palate presence, the 2019 captures all the richness of the year and yet also stays light on its feet. Sage, rose petal, spice and sweet macerated cherry all grace this ethereal, vivid and very pretty Poujeaux. »
Martin (Vinous) : 93-95/100 « This Poujeaux has good backbone, almost Pauillac-like in style with a dense and persistent finish that augers for a long-term wine that will repay those with the nous to cellar it a few years. Superb. »

Although contiguous to Poujeaux, Chasse-Spleen offers another face to Moulis wines, more tannic and, in its first youth, more austere. A great Medoc classic.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 88-90/100 « The 2019 Chasse-Spleen is lifted and aromatic in feel. [...] A wine of understatement, Chasse-Spleen will drink well right out of the gate. »
Martin (Vinous) : 92-94/100 «The palate looks promising, classic in style, not reserved but not wanting to show off at this early stage. Fresh from the start, the acidity is well judged and it has an appealing grainy texture. It is detailed with touches of graphite lingering on the aftertaste. Excellent. »

Bernard Magrez's third wine jewel (with Pape Clément and Fombrauge), purchased in 1999. After a complete overhaul of the vineyard, La Tour Carnet once again honours its position as a 4th Grand Cru Classé, in a modern, smooth and powerful style. A formidable competitor in blind tastings.

    Bettane & Desseauve : 91-92/100
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « The 2019 La Tour Carnet is fabulous. Deep and inky, it shows notes of graphite, scorched earth, cedar, tobacco and menthol. The 2019 needs time to shed some of its baby fat and reveal its full range of aromatics, but it is undeniably beautiful today. Best of all, the 2019 should be a fabulous deal. »
