The dry white wine of Mouton-Rothschild, very confidential (1000 cases produced per year).

    Bettane & Desseauve : 93/100
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « The 2019 Aile d'Argent, Mouton Rothschild's white is laced with hints of pineapple, mint, white flowers, apple and lemon confit. In 2019, Aile d'Argent is distinguished by its energy, even with a touch of malolactic fermentation, and a bit more restraint than in the past, all huge positives. »
Martin (Vinous) : 90-92/100 « The palate is well balanced with a brisk, sharp opening, moderate weight, good tension with a touch of bitter lemon neatly counterbalancing the richness, whilst a potent spicy stem ginger note rounds things off nicely. »

The white wine of Smith Haut Lafitte has built up a solid reputation over the last 10 years, even if it is not a grand cru classé (but Haut-Brion blanc and Pape-Clément blanc are not either). A happy marriage of wood and fruit, it always delivers a beautiful aromatic complexity, from lime blossom to citrus, and a lively, rich and fine structure. 2017 was rated 19/20 by the Revue du Vin de France "one of the most complete and accomplished wines ever tasted. The depth, complexity of flavor and length are truly impressive. It will go very far".

    Bettane & Desseauve : 95-96/100
Bravo ! »
Galloni (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « Orchard fruit, mint, white flowers, lemon confit and white pepper confer briskness to a white that nicely balances the natural richness of the year with freshness that comes from picking on the early side. »
Martin (Vinous) : 94-96/100 « It is not the most complex white Smith Haut Lafitte that I have tasted, yet it is full of tension with subtle spicy notes of ginger and lemongrass that enliven the persistent finish. There is a brightness and sophistication to this wine that is very persuasive. Superb. »

The arrival of Mr. Denz in 2014 has restored all its luster to this 1er cru classé de Bommes, a perfect synthesis between the elegance and distinction of Barsac and the richness and power of the Haut-Sauternes region.

    Bettane & Desseauve : 94/100
Dupont (Le Point) : 16.5/20 « Fruits blancs, agrumes, litchi, bouche fraîche, amer délicat, suave, finale relevée. »

Certified organic since 2015 and with a vineyard entirely biodynamic, Château de La Dauphine wishes, beyond its 350 years of history, to set an example of modern viticulture that is concerned about environmental issues.

    Bettane & Desseauve : 91-92/100
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Quarin : 87/100 « Bouche au corps tendre, fruitée, agréable »
Galloni (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « A wine of superb richness and volume, the 2019 is shaping up to be a real beauty. The more extroverted side of Fronsac comes through nicely here. »
Martin (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2019 de la Dauphine has a superb nose with pure blackberry, boysenberry and crushed stone aromas, hints of iris and violet emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, grainy tannins, fine depth and an unerring sense of symmetry on the finish. »

Mr. Durantou (owner of Église-Clinet who died in 2020) produced only 1500 cases per year of his remarkable Lalande de Pomerol Les Cruzelles. This was far superior to the neighbouring Pomerol of the same price.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2019 Les Cruzelles is a big wine. Black cherry, gravel, smoke, licorice and new leather blast out of the glass. Dizzyingly intense and deep, with equally potent tannins, Les Cruzelles is fabulous in 2019. »
Martin (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « The palate is medium-bodied with dark berry fruit mixed with dried orange peel and a pinch of sea salt. This has so much character and personality, the salinity on the finish lingers wonderfully. »

With 12 hectares cultivated in biodynamic farming, certified since the 2007 vintage, Clos Puy-Arnaud is one of the great Côtes de Castillon wines that have nothing to envy to neighbouring Saint-Émilion.

"Grand Vin", the uncompromising cuvée that has made the estate's reputation, authentic, straight and deep, classic, spicy and cut out for keeping.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2019 Clos Puy Arnaud is dazzling. Rich, inky and wonderfully deep, the 2019 has so much to offer. I can't remember a recent Clos Puy Arnaud with this much density and sheer textural intensity. Inky dark fruit, crème de cassis, violets and licorice all build as this sumptuous, exotically rich Castillon Côtes De Bordeaux shows off its personality. What a wine! »
Martin (Vinous) : 85-87/100 « The 2019 Puy Arnaud has a lovely ripe nose with mulberry and raspberry preserve, generous and well defined. [...] Whilst the aromatics are promising, the palate lacks structure and grip and drifts towards the finish. »

Promoted to "Cru Bourgeois Supérieur" in 2020.

Galloni (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2019 Cantenac Brown is dark, rich and super-expressive. Even with all of that intensity, Cantenac Brown retains a good bit of nuance and detail. I very much like the balance here, as well as what seems like a move towards more finesse. »
Martin (Vinous) : 94-96/100 « The palate is very cohesive with sappy red fruit, beautifully judged acidity and a harmonious, fulfilling dark chocolate-tinged finish that lingers wonderfully. What an exquisite, well-crafted Margaux with oodles and oodles of charm. »

Clos du Marquis is no longer the second wine of Léoville-Las Cases, but a wine in its own right produced on the parcels adjoining Léoville-Poyferré and Lagrange. In any case, his exemplary consistency for more than 30 years now commands respect.

    Bettane & Desseauve : 94/100
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « The 2019 Clos du Marquis is a bold, luscious Saint-Julien with plenty of up-front appeal to match its mid-weight structure. This easygoing Saint-Julien offers plenty of immediacy. The tannins are present, but they are also nicely enrobed by the fruit. »
Martin (Vinous) : 93-95/100 « The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins that frame the vivid blackberry and wild strawberry fruit laced with orange sorbet. There is a citric freshness towards the end of this accomplished Clos du Marquis. Excellent. »

    Dupont (Le Point) :
Longueur normale. »
Galloni (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2019 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur is a stunning wine. Dark cherry, blackberry jam, plum, gravel, menthol, licorice, inky spice and new leather meld together in a Saint-Estèphe that is rich, unctuous and potent to the core. In the glass, the 2019 is virile and expansive, with tremendous depth, persistence and aromatic breadth. »
Martin (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit laced with pencil lead, very harmonious with a precise and persistent finish. This is surely the best second label from Calon Ségur to date. »

After a real turn towards more elegance under the leadership of Axa Vignobles, Petit-Village was sold in 2020 to MM Moulin (Beauregard) and Cathiard (Smith-Haut-Lafitte). Given its terroir (wedged between Vieux-Certan/La Conseillante and Trotanoy/Le Pin) and the new team's decision to convert immediately to organic, Petit-Village will soon be in the news.

    Bettane & Desseauve : 94-95/100
Dupont (Le Point) : 16-16.5/20 « Fruits rouges, cerise, tanins fins, moelleux, harmonieux, long et élégant. »
Galloni (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « In 2019, Petit-Village is outrageously beautiful. Rich, vivid and so complex, the 2019 is also one of the best wines I have tasted here in a number of years. On the palate, the 2019 is ample and inviting, with layers of dark fruit that unfold over time. »
Martin (Vinous) : 88-90/100 « Like some other Pomerol crus, it feels a bit static at first, missing the joie-de-vivre I expected. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, quite structured and grippy, gaining more detail and precision towards a slightly earthy finish. »

Always of a high level for a reasonable price (in Pomerol), Gazin wines, moderately full-bodied and marked by truffles, are the archetype of the appellation.

    Bettane & Desseauve :  93-94/100
Dupont (Le Point) : 17.5-18/20 « Rose rouge, cerise, élégant, bien équilibré, notes poivrées, long, délicat, frais. »
Superbe. »
Galloni (Vinous) : 91-93/100 « The 2019 Gazin is succulent, racy and forward. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the 2019 is racy and forward, with plenty of the vintage's radiance on display. Best of all, the 2019 should drink well right out of the gate. »
Martin (Vinous) : 95-97/100 « The palate is very promising with saturated tannins that belie the structure of this Pomerol. The freshness is very impressive, lighting up the senses. The finish is imbued with wonderful tension and traces of iron on the aftertaste. Quintessentially Gazin, this is a superb wine. »

Galloni (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2019 La Marzelle is such a gorgeous wine. Rich and unctuous in the glass, the 2019 is a heady, flamboyant wine, but it all works so well here. La Marzelle is not exactly complex, but it sure is delicious. »

Bought out in 2017 by the reinsurer SCOR, a page is turned in Troplong-Mondot, a formidable terroir in Saint-Emilion. Up to and including 2016, these are the richest in extract and most generous wines of the appellation, made by Christine Valette and her husband, under the aegis of Michel Rolland.

A radical break in style from the 2017 vintage: armed with the power of its terroir, the Château now aims, under the leadership of Aymeric de Gironde (former director of Cos d'Estournel), to produce more harmonious wines, combining elegant precision with their natural aromatic richness.

Galloni (Vinous) : 96-98/100 « The 2019 Troplong Mondot is sensational. Rich, vibrant and explosive, the 2019 pulses with energy. Black cherry, violet plum, licorice, lavender and dark spice build in a statuesque Saint-Émilion endowed with tremendous energy and pure power. Troplong Mondot is not as obvious a wine as it was a few years ago, but its grandeur - and more importantly, the grandeur of this site - are evident. »
Martin (Vinous) : 95-97/100 « Its gentle personality belies the backbone of this Troplong, with touches of white pepper and tobacco toward the cerebral finish. It is a wonderful Saint-Émilion from Aymeric de Gironde and his team, more approachable than the 2018, to be frank, just a wine you are going to want to drink. »
