Although Les Carmes is adjacent to Haut-Brion and its vines were once part of those of Haut-Brion, the wines produced there are radically different from those of its prestigious neighbour. Due to a particular subsoil with the presence of clay, the vines are mainly Cabernet Franc (42%) and Merlot (40%) and the wines, deep and tasty, have an immediate generosity more typical of the right bank than the left bank. The new team set up following the acquisition in 2010 immediately propelled Les Carmes to the top of the Pessac-Léognan's wines.

Vinified in the cellars of Ch. Ducru-Beaucaillou, this cuvée benefits from the best care. Its higher proportion of Merlot (68%) makes it a wine of pleasure, gourmet and quickly enjoyable.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 86-88/100 « I would prefer to drink it on the young side, while the sweet floral, tobacco and cedary flavors remain fresh. The tannins are a bit strict, at least today. Tasted from a 100ml screwcap sample bottle. [...] I won't be surprised if the wines show better from a full bottle »
Martin (Vinous) : 89-91/100 « The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent opening. Fleshy and round, it offloads plenty of black fruit laced with white pepper exerting a gentle grip on the finish. I suspect this will be an approachable 2019 that will give a decade's worth of drinking pleasure. »

In 2000, Malescot Saint-Exupéry woke up under the leadership of Michel Rolland. Since then, in a generous and serene style, very rich for a Margaux, he has never ceased to distinguish himself. As the Revue du Vin de France wrote: "In 10 years, it is the wine that has made the most progress among the Margaux wines".

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
    Quarin :
Galloni (Vinous) : 94-96/100 « The 2019 Malescot St. Exupéry is a striking wine that is sure to find many admirers. The interplay of earthy and savory notes with rich, dense fruit here is utterly captivating. Even in this warm, obviously opulent vintage, Malescot remains one of the most distinctive wines in Margaux, and in Bordeaux more broadly. I loved it. »
Martin (Vinous) : 95-97/100 « The 2019 Malescot St. Exupéry is richer and more flamboyant on the nose compared to its Margaux peers with ravishing red berry fruit, vanilla, iodine and touches of cassis, becoming increasingly floral with aeration. Wonderful cohesion here, harmonious and focused with veins of black pepper and allspice towards the finish that feels reassuringly long. Deee-licious! »

With the help of Michel Rolland, Léoville-Poyferré has gained in depth since 1993, voluptuousness of texture and ability to age. It is now approaching the quality of its prestigious neighbours in which it is landlocked: Léoville-Las Cases and Pichon-Lalande. The competition between the three Léoville is intense but Léoville-Poyferré now prevails with an easier, more voluptuous approach, and a superior quality/price/pleasure ratio.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 95-97/100 « The 2019 Léoville-Poyferré is magnificent. Inky, dark and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2019 possesses off-the-charts richness allied to tremendous breadth that grows over time. Crème de cassis, chocolate, licorice, sweet spice and menthol wrap around the palate as this dense, potent Saint-Julien shows off its alluring personality. »
Martin (Vinous) : 96-98/100 « The palate is medium-bodied with lavish, luxuriant black fruit and a creamy texture that is instantly seductive. It is a more opulent Saint-Julien than the Barton with a satin-like texture on the finish. If you love the style of Léoville-Poyferré then you will adore this. »

Pichon-Comtesse de Lalande is still as dense and sweet, charming and enchanting as ever, the most feminine of the Pauillac. Mr. Rouzaud (Roederer) acquired it in 2007 and strengthened the technical team by adding the advice of Mr. Boissenot and oenologist Denis Dubourdieu (deceased in 2016).

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Bravo !  »
Galloni (Vinous) : 95-97/100 « The 2019 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande evokes a feeling of real power and breadth, with tons of energy giving the wine drive that builds into the finish. »
Martin (Vinous) : 98-100/100 « The palate is underpinned by very refined tannins that cradle what may well be the purest fruit you will find in this vintage. Unbelievably precise all the way through to the finish, I admit staring at my glass trying to find fault with it. [...] you are not looking at a modern-day 1982 or 2016, but something even better and more profound. »

Mouton-Rothschild's second wine, which appeared in 1993, has since made its place among its peers (Carruades de Lafite, Forts de Latour, Pavillon Rouge) by offering each vintage a great Pauillac, full, fleshy, muscular, barely less deep and full-bodied than its famous big brother but with the same cassis finish. Little Sheep has grown up!

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « You know what? Mouton Rothschild will get the lion's share of attention in 2019, but I think the Petit-Mouton might be even more impressive! Racy and sexy from the outset, the 2019 is positively stellar. »
Martin (Vinous) : 93-95/100 « The palate is just gorgeous: seductive black fruit laced with white pepper, very fine tannins, pitch perfect balance and an exceedingly precise finish that is frankly Grand Vin worthy. Outstanding. »

The acquisition of Calon-Ségur in 2012 by a subsidiary of Crédit Mutuel (a French bank) heralds the great awakening of this famous terroir of gravel on limestone, in one piece and entirely surrounded by a wall (a unique fact in the Médoc). All of Bordeaux wants Calon-Ségur to be as fabulous as those of the middle of the last century after a 15-year investment plan.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 96-98/100 « A total knock-out, the 2019 Calon Ségur is shaping up to be truly epic. Rich, dense and explosive, the 2019 soars out of the glass with stunning intensity. Graphite, pencil shavings, crème de cassis, new leather, spice and chocolate infuse the 2019 with stunning intensity. The 2019 is looking to be a wine for the ages. »
Martin (Vinous) : 95-97/100 « The palate is the smoothest that I have ever encountered at this stage, silky and refined, framing the pure black fruit infused with minerals. This 2019 is a step up from the previous vintage, a Calon Ségur with newfound elegance and wind in its sails. Bon vin. »

Since the creation of the second wine (Duo) in 2007, the selections have become more severe and, gaining in density without losing any of its finesse, La Conseillante is more than ever part of the Pomerol elite.

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Bravo ! »
Galloni (Vinous) : 96-98/100 « Fresh, nuanced and beautifully perfumed, the 2019 is a total stunner from the very first taste. What impresses me most about the 2019 is its freshness and vivacity, both so rare in 2019 in Pomerol. At 16%, the Cabernet Franc is particularly expressive, especially in the wine's aromatics. The 2019 is a wine of pure and total sensuality. Don't miss it. »
Martin (Vinous) : 97-99/100 « This is definitely one of the purest La Conseillante wines that I have encountered from barrel. It delivers a subtle spiciness towards the finish with hints of tobacco and clove on the persistent aftertaste. Winemaker Marielle Cazaux and her team have conjured a magnificent Pomerol here. »

A talented and demanding owner, Mr. Durantou, at the service of a great terroir, right next to the church of Pomerol, between Lafleur and Clinet.

Grand 2014, rated 95/100 by Vinous "Maybe the 2014 Église-Clinet will be better than the 2015".

    Bettane & Desseauve :
Revue du Vin de France :
    Dupont (Le Point) :
Galloni (Vinous) : 97-99/100 « The 2019 L'Eglise-Clinet, Denis Durantou's last vintage, is also very clearly one of the wines of the year. A Pomerol of soaring, majestic intensity L'Eglise-Clinet dazzles from start to finish. Layers of dark fruit, gravel, spice and dried flowers unfold over time. Readers who can find the 2019 should not hesitate, as it is a true masterpiece. »
Martin (Vinous) : 97-99/100 « The palate is wonderfully proportioned with fine tannins that frame the layered black and red fruit, lightly spiced with hints of tobacco and cracked black pepper on the finish imparted by that seasoning of Cabernet Franc. Quintessential l'Eglise-Clinet, it will give half a century of drinking pleasure and the perfect way to remember and raise a toast to one of Pomerol's finest vignerons. »
