Newsletters Futures 2020

In this category, we offer you the wines, renowned or not, which were not in our selection last year:

• either because they have been created recently;
• or because their price has become attractive again;
• or because they raised their quality standards.

In any case, they deserve your attention as they succeed to retain our attention. We bet that they will stay for a long time in our selection!

    Couhins' clear progress, seen in white wine since 2009, is now being felt in red wine. Here, it is not power that is sought but balance, aromatic delicacy and palatability.

    Dupont (Le Point) : 17/20 Coup de coeur ♥ « Nez expressif, délicat, fruits noirs, sureau, élevage élégant, de la fraîcheur, note fumée, bien tramée, complet, mais joli vin prometteur. »

    Historic estate of the Listrac appellation, in clear progression since 2010. The best cru bourgeois of the sector in 2016, hailed as such by Mr Martin (Vinous) "What a magnificent Listrac in Fonréaud this year! ", rated 91/100.

    Bettane & Desseauve : 89-90/100
    Dupont (Le Point) : 15/20 « Boisé toasté, bouche bien juteuse, épicée, vin assez riche, long. »
    Quarin : 86/100 « Nez moyennement intense, mais parfumé. Ce parfum se retrouve en bouche, où le corps se présente délicat, avec une douceur inédite pour l’appellation. Le vin manque encore un peu de puissance en finale. »

    Located at the northern tip of the Médoc, the vineyard of Château La Goulée was abandoned in 2007 when Cos d'Estournel acquired it. The aim was to produce an intensely flavoursome, tasty and charming wine thanks to an almost (90%) pure Merlot grape variety.

    The contract was perfectly fulfilled with this magnificent 2019, a real delicacy rated 92/100 by M. Galloni (Vinous).

    Galloni (Vinous) : 86-88/100 « The 2020 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel is perfumed and silky in the glass. Cedar, sweet pipe tobacco and crushed flowers lend attractive aromatic presence. This is an especially gracious style that feels a bit light. »
    Martin (Vinous) : 85-87/100 « The 2020 Goulée by Cos d’Estournel has a very earthy nose, bell pepper intermingling with black fruit, the former becoming quite pronounced with time. I would like a little more fruit to come through here. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins and quite herbaceous on the entry, showing some attenuation toward the finish. »

    New denomination of the second wine of Pichon-Baron from the 2012 vintage, undoubtedly at the level of the 5th growths of Pauillac.

    Bettane & Desseauve : 92-93/100
    Galloni (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2020 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is fabulous. Bright and intensely savory, the 2020 screams with character. The Cabernet seems especially expressive today. Inky red fruit, spice, dried flowers, crushed rocks and blood orange build as this exquisitely perfumed, nuanced Pauillac shows off its considerable pedigree. This is a terrific showing. »
    Martin (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The wonderful palate is very smooth and silky, delivering quite lush black fruit that disguises the structure behind it. Almost symmetrical in poise, this might well be the first Griffons that is just a mere nose behind the Grand Vin, perhaps in part thanks to the contribution of the 8% Petit Verdot. Not to be overlooked. »

    A tiny cru of one and a half hectares adjacent to Clos Fourtet, which came into the Cuvelier family in 2013 and has been vinified by the technical team of Clos Fourtet since 2018. Without losing any of their silky roundness and flattering fruitiness (100% Merlot), the wines have gained in purity and length in recent vintages. They now faithfully reflect their terroir, with the underlying limestone giving the wines minerality and distinction.

    Bettane & Desseauve : 94-95/100
    Galloni (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « The 2020 Les Grandes Murailles is fabulous. Rich, effusive and vibrant, it possesses terrific energy and plenty of verve. A whole range of floral and spice notes opens first as this chiseled, finely sculpted Saint-Émilion gradually unfolds in the glass. A wine of reserve and character, the Les Grandes Murailles is shaping up to be a gem. »
    Martin (Vinous) : 92-94/100 « This is quite a solid Les Grandes Murailles, very saline in the mouth, leading to a grippy, slightly tarry finish. Broody at the moment. I suspect this will require 4–5 years in bottle before it shows what it is capable of. »

    In 2004, Jean-Michel Chartron gave a new impetus to the family estate, with the chance to have an extraordinary land heritage (the Clos des Chevaliers is the best part of the Chevalier-Montrachet, itself considered the best grand cru in Puligny after Montrachet). Mineral, nervous, powerful and long, its wines are among the greatest in Puligny. Rated one star in the 2021 Revue du Vin de France guide.

    Appointment : Jean-Michel Chartron was doubly elected "Winegrower of the Year": in the magazine "Bourgogne Aujourd'hui" in March 2018 and in the Hachette guide in September 2018.

    In the north of the Côte de Beaune behind Pernand-Vergelesses, Domaine Chartron has a tiny vineyard of 0.6 ha, planted in 1970 with pinot noirs. The result is a confidential production of a fresh, fairly light, very drinkable, fruity and unpretentious red Burgundy, "for every day".
