Château PAPE CLÉMENT Grand cru classé 2017 bottle 75cl

bottle 75cl: 68,33 €bottle 75cl

Since 1985, Pape Clément has magnificently combined the bouquet and natural finesse of the Graves with the power of its terroir (comparable to that of the greatest Pauillac wines). It is undoubtedly one of the super seconds on the left bank, what is confirmed by the marks attributed to its latest vintages.

Rated 94/100 by Neal Martin « This is clearly improving in bottle and is turning into a very fine Pessac-Léognan that will give 20 years of drinking pleasure. Excellent. » (Feb. 2020)

Rated 96/100 by Antonio Galloni « The 2017 Pape Clément is outrageously beautiful. Rich, deep and luscious on the palate, the 2017 possesses tremendous energy and richness from start to finish. [...] an unctuous, racy wine of the highest level. » (March 2020)

» (Oct. 2020)

Sophisticated white wine from Pape-Clement, with a balance of tone and concentration that is always perfectly defined. Its 2020, precise, intense, discreetly woody and less smoky than usual, will be among the greatest Bordeaux whites of the decade.

The vintage 2020 is rated 94/100 by N. Martin «The 2020 Pape Clément (white) has a bright nose with scents of orchard fruit, orange pith and lime cordial scents, well defined and focused. The palate is fresh and mineral-driven, quite taut, much less oaky than other vintages and displaying more terroir towards the finish. One of the best whites from the estate that i have tasted. Tasted three times with consistent notes. » (December 2022)

The vintage 2020 is rated 95/100 by N. Martin «The 2020 Pape Clément (red) has a incredibly intense bouquet with multi-layered blackberry and bilberry fruit, cedar and black olive compote aromas. Hints of vanilla pod and black truffle emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with firm and quite assertive tannins that frame a huge weight of fruit (more than Domaine de Chevalier or Malartic-Lagravière tasted alongside). It's not a subtle Pessac-Léognan for sure, but there is adequate freshness and a sense of minerality and tension on the finish. It will require at least a decade in bottle but long-term, this will be magnificent. » (December 2022)

The 2014 vintage is rated 93/100 by N. Martin "The palate is medium-bodied, with supple tannins and layers of black fruits complemented by black pepper, cedar and spice box. The finish shows more panache than the aromas, with a palpable sense of control and concentration. This is class." (February 2024)

The third wine jewel of Bernard Magrez (after Pape Clément and Fombrauge), bought in 1999. After a complete overhaul of the vineyard (it is now the largest Grand Cru Classé in the Médoc with 225 ha of vineyards), La Tour Carnet displays a modern, smooth and powerful style. A formidable competitor in blind tastings.

Rated 92/100 by N. Martin «The 2020 La Tour Carnet was impressive from barrel. Now in bottle, it has a composed and understated bouquet that grows in stature with aeration. A second bottle had a more accentuated marine scent. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, nicely judged acidity, very harmonious with an expressive, lightly spiced and persitent finish. Excellent.» (December 2022)
