Bought out in 2017 by the reinsurer SCOR, a page is turned in Troplong-Mondot, a formidable terroir in Saint-Emilion. Up to and including 2016, these are the richest in extract and most generous wines of the appellation, made by Christine Valette and her husband, under the aegis of Michel Rolland.

A radical break in style from the 2017 vintage: armed with the power of its terroir, the Château now aims, under the leadership of Aymeric de Gironde (former director of Cos d'Estournel), to produce more harmonious wines, combining elegant precision with their natural aromatic richness.

"Troplong-Mondot 2017 is stunning, just as it was at the start. Rich and full-bodied, but also endowed with radiant energy, 2017 is the first vintage made by the new director, Aymeric de Gironde [previously at Pichon-Baron and Cos d'Estournel] and winemaker Thomas Duclos. This 2017 appeals to all the senses and never falters. All the typical power of this terroir is obvious, it seems to come so naturally and yet, by harvesting earlier and making the wine more gently in the cellar, we have obtained a Troplong of uncommon energy and vitality. This 2017 was nothing less than exciting the 4 times I tasted it in the bottle. What a wine! " Rated 98+/100, the second best score of the 2017 vintage, only edged out by Ch. Lafleur.

Rated 92/100 by Neal Martin after bottling « it represents a delicious Troplong Mondot that will give 15 to 18 years of drinking pleasure, though you can bet your bottom dollar this will be surpassed in years to come. » (February 2020)

Rated 98+/100 by Antonio Galloni after bottling « All of the power that is typical of this site is evident, it seems to come so naturally, and yet picking earlier and then using a lighter hand in the cellar yielded a Troplong of uncommon energy and vibrancy. The 2017 has been nothing short of thrilling on the four occasions I have tasted it from bottle so far. What a wine! » (March 2020) Second best score of the 2017 vintage, only edged out by Ch.
