Champagne ÉGLY-OURIET Grand cru Millésimé 2011 bottle 75cl

Precise and meticulous worker, Francis Egly is in the firmament of Champagne. With his magnificently situated vineyards in grand cru (Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay, pinot noir and chardonnay) and premier cru (Vrigny, pinot meunier), he makes prodigious wines of vinosity, intensity and noble character, always on the razor's edge between the great maturity of the grapes and a fine chalky minerality. All his vintages are vinified in wood and without malolactic fermentation. The critics are enthusiastic, such as Mr. Bettane "Égly-Ouriet sets the tone for the whole Champagne viticulture with vintages of a sidereal depth". Starting with the admirable flagship cuvée Brut sans année, 100% Grand Cru, both refined and elegant, with iodine notes accompanying a fine bitterness.

Rated 94/100 by Antonio Galloni (Vinous) « The 2011 Brut Millésime Grand Cru is a very pretty wine, especially within the context of the year. Bright floral notes meld into hints of lemon confit, tangerine oil, dried flowers, sage and pastry. There is terrific freshness to the 2011, although not quite the dimension of the very best years. Even so, this is very clearly one of the finest 2011s. » (Nov. 2020)

Rated 92/100 by Antonio Galloni (Vinous) « The NV Brut Les Vignes de Vrigny 1er Cru is gorgeous in the way it balances the natural depth of Meunier with real energy and vibrancy. Dried pear, spice and crushed flowers all open in the glass, but what impresses me about this release of Egly's pure Meunier is its translucence and finesse. » (Nov. 2020)

Rated 92/100 by Antonio Galloni (Vinous) « The NV Brut Rosé Grand Cru is distinguished, among other things, by the five years it spent on its lees, which is quite long for Rosé Champagne. Bright and beautifully sculpted, the Rosé sizzles with tension and yet it also possesses a sense of inner suaveness that is impossible to miss. This is such a classy wine. » (Nov. 2020)

The cuvée "Brut Tradition" was noted 92/100 by Wine Advocate and 17/20, better note of the Brut Champagnes without vintage, by La Revue du Vin de France of December, 2019.

Rated 92/100 by Antonio Galloni (Vinous) « the NV Brut Tradition Grand Cru is super-expressive. [...] Red fruit, dried flowers, mint, spice and lemon confit are some of the aromas and flavors that build in this wonderfully open-knit, inviting Champagne. » (Nov. 2020)

Critics are enthusiastic about the standard cuvée "Grand cru Brut" with "Blanc de Noirs Vieilles Vignes", 100% pinot noir, rated 18.5/20 by M. Bettane. "Égly-Ouriet sets the tone for all Champagne viticulture with vintages of sidereal depth".

Rated 18/20 in the Guide de la Revue du Vin de France 2020: « Prolonged aging (84 months) reveals the depth and wisdom that a great champagne can possess. It is blended equally in 2008, 2009 and 2010 to deploy the impressive strength of the terroir. A great champagne for the table Rated 96/100 by Antonio Galloni (Vinous) « The NV Extra Brut V.P. Grand Cru (Vieillissement Prolongé) is a rich, textured Champagne that expresses all of the natural intensity gained after having spent eight years on its lees. [...] It is a wine of remarkable depth and vinous intensity. In a word: superb. » (Nov. 2020)
