Château MONTROSE
2ème grand cru classé

After 43 vintages, Mr Charmolüe sold the estate to Mr Bouygues in 2006. The change of ownership was accompanied by a spectacular project designed to bring Montrose into the 21st century: use of geothermal energy, installation of photovoltaic panels, recycling of CO2 from alcoholic fermentation...

There has also been a change of style in the wines, with a move towards greater aromatic complexity and textural refinement. Montrose nevertheless remains a wine of great breed, resting on a powerful tannic architecture and reserved for the most patient connoisseurs.

Revue du Vin de France : 97-98/100 « Le château a pris le parti de resserrer le terroir qui permet d’élaborer le grand vin sur 45 hectares historiques. Conséquence : les quantités produites sont plus restreintes. Dans la bouteille ? Nul doute que ce choix a été payant. Le 2023 marque l’histoire du cru et se hisse à un très haut niveau. Musclé, dense, il est aussi très raffiné. Les contours sont admirablement dessinés et l’équilibre est magistral. »
Quarin : 97/100 « Couleur noire. Nez intense, fin, pur, fruité, subtil et complexe. Moelleux à l'attaque, complexe en milieu de bouche, avec un corps fondant et énormément d'arômes, le vin évolue lentement en prenant du relief dans la seconde partie du palais. Il s'achève long et noble, avec une qualité de pulpe haut de gamme, du goût et des tannins fins. »
Galloni : 95-97/100 « The 2023 Montrose is a dark, brooding powerhouse but with the elegance that is such a signature today. Black cherry, plum, leather, licorice, mocha, spice, tobacco and dried flowers infuse the 2023 with tons of character. The Cabernet Sauvignon is so expressive here. Readers will have to be patient, as this is a wine built for the cellar. It's not especially showy today, but all the ingredients are there. The 2023 is quite the bruiser. In other words, it's classic Montrose. »
Martin : 96-98/100 « The 2023 Montrose  has a very intense and focused bouquet: pure black fruit with just a touch of strawberry, hints of violet petals developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins-very pure, with pitch-perfect acidity. This gains depth toward the finish but maintains a sense of linearity that ensures it is one of the vintage's finest contributions from the Left Bank. Magnificent. »
