Smith Haut Lafitte's white wine has built up a solid reputation over the past 20 years, even though it is not a grand cru classé (but neither are Haut-Brion blanc and Pape-Clément blanc). A happy marriage of wood and fruit, it always delivers a beautiful aromatic complexity, from lime blossom to citrus fruit, and a lively, rich, fine structure.

Terre de Vins : 98-99/100 Coup de ♥  "One is immediately captivated by a lovely creaminess of white fruit with a hint of aniseed: a touch of fennel and star anise, a subtle hint of vanilla enhancing the yellow fruit, all underscored by a briny note; it is an extremely well-rounded wine. It is a (great) white that behaves almost like a (great) red, with its texture, depth and tactile dimension that vibrates on the palate, bringing great complexity to the wine, and finishing with a salty note beneath the white fruit. This is a truly fine wine in the making.”

A wine typical of the terroir, with lovely dynamism on the palate, notes of yellow and white fruits, flowers and fennel, and a finish with noble bitterness and hints of citrus zest. A rich yet balanced wine, with a salty finish and very easy to drink.”

Dried pear, acacia, chamomile and white pepper open beautifully. The Blanc is quite delicate at first, but it gains breadth through the mid-palate and into the finish. Impeccable."
