Monbazillac is to the Dordogne Valley what Sauternes is to the Garonne Valley: the most favourable place for botrytis to develop, and therefore for the production of great sweet white wines. Domaine de Pécoula, a 32-hectare estate on a hillside, produces a cuvée Millénaire, matured exclusively in vats and with an alcohol content kept to 12.5°, the better to reveal complexity and aromatic finesse on the nose and palate.
The 2022 vintage, 70% Muscadelle and 30% Sémillon, is sweeter and more concentrated, with notes of dried fruit (apricot, grape) and candied fruit (clementine, Spanish melon). Favourite of the Hachette 2026 guide.

80% Sémillon and 20% Muscadelle, the 2021 vintage has aromas of fresh fruit (apricot, quince and pineapple) and a lovely acidity that gives it liveliness and delicacy, winning it a gold medal at the Concours Général de Paris.
The 2021 vintage in the press:
La Revue du Vin de France (September 2024): 90/100 “The Orient and its spices draw the volutes of the aromatic structure. Candied pear, apricot, honey and saffron ennoble the contours of the palate. An expansive, voluminous, candied Monbazillac, just the way we like it."
Straddling Barsac and Sauternes (several of their plots are adjacent to Yquem, Climens or Lafaurie-Peyraguey), Haut-Bergeron enjoys a quality terroir superbly exploited by the Lamothe family for 9 generations (!). It is the artisanal cru and the sure value of Sauternes, of which each vintage wins its share of awards in competitions and guides.
The 2023 vintage in the press:
Vinous (N. Martin - February 2026): 93/100 "The 2023 Haut-Bergeron has quite a complex bouquet that needs coaxing from the glass, revealing pure botrytised fruit, honeysuckle and beeswax scents and a touch of jasmine. The palate is well balanced, with a viscous entry, a silver thread of acidity, bright and focused with a lovely, caressing, honeyed finish. Delivers what you want from a Sauternes."
J-M Quarin (March 2026): 91/100 “Golden color. Intense nose with ripe, subtle fruit. Creamy. Meticulous on the palate, aromatic in the middle, with a melting body, the wine glides to a savory, long finish. It's very good.”

The 2021 vintage in the press:
Vinous (N. Martin - November 2023): 91/100 “The 2021 Haut-Bergeron has an attractive bouquet with acacia honey, yellow plum and light peachy notes, gradually gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is weel-balanced with fine weight, the acidity lending tension. The finish has a delightful marmelade and quince tinge that lingers in the mouth. Delightful.”

Doisy-Daëne is located at the top of Barsac, between Climens and Coutet. Brilliantly orchestrated by Denis Dubourdieu (nicknamed the ‘pope of Bordeaux whites’) until 2016, his two sons Fabrice and Jean-Jacques are now continuing his work.
Doisy-Daëne is never the sweetest wine in its sector, but it always possesses unrivalled expression and aromatic refinement. Its purity and elegance make it all the more sought-after, especially as its prices remain reasonable.
The 2023 vintage in the press:
Vinous (A. Galloni – March 2026): 96/100 "The 2023 Doisy-Daëne is redolent of pineapple, tangerine oil and passion fruit. Doisy-Daëne is usually a bit more floral, but the 2023 seems to be built on striking textural richness. As good as the 2023 is, it will be much more complete with a few years in bottle."
J-M Quarin (March 2026): 97/100 "Yellow color with green highlights. Intense, refined, fruity, subtle and noble nose. It evolves deeply in the glass. Magical on entry, particularly aromatic in the middle, the wine melts on the palate, complex and accompanied by exceptional silkiness. It is superb and so deep. Bravo!"
Vinous (N. Martin - February 2026): 96/100 "The 2023 Doisy-Daëne has a bright and quite intense bouquet: dried honey, candle wax and quince, quite complex but it deserves time. The palate is just exquisite on the opening, with a viscous texture, orange pith and quince mixed with wild honey and a touch of white peach. There is real weight and density on the finish, another superb Doisy-Daëne and perchance superior to the previous vintage, tasted a few weeks later."

This has fine delineation. The palate is supremely well balanced with caressing viscous botrytised fruit effortlessly matched by the acidity. Poised and very tender on the long finish, this is a wonderful Barsac."
J.M Quarin (February 2025): 95/100 "Yellow colour with green highlights. Intense, fruity, smooth and complex nose. Base notes of fresh almond and apricot. Meticulous on the palate, complex and fragrant in the middle, the wine evolves with a refined touch towards a long, unbeatable finish. Very good."

For the Revue du Vin de France, the 2016 : « fruit étincelant et cristallin, caractère épuré qui signe le terroir de Barsac ».
Vinous (N. Martin - February 2026): 95/100 "The 2016 Doisy-Daëne is more backward on the nose, but there is impressive delineation and tension, hints of beeswax infusing the honey fruit. The palate is well balanced with impressive depth, lovely grip, a keen line of acidity and superb cohesion towards the finish. Meanwhile, the nose finally begins to open. Excellent."
Vinous (N. Martin - January 2020): 96/100 "The first bottle of 2016 Doisy-Daëne was corked. The second is clean and precise on the nose, offering honeycomb, lanolin, crushed rocks and light yellow flower aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is very well balanced, and a fine bead of acidity cuts through the intense botrytized fruit. Very harmonious and poised, with impressive intensity on the finish. This is a marvelous Sauternes. Excellent."

Like its peers, there is something a little Germanic here. The palate is very well balanced with a pure entry. The acidity slices through the botrytised fruit, with touches of peach and ginger towards the finish. Fine."
Wine Advocate: 95-97/100 “This is a fabulous Doisy-Daëne from Denis Dubourdieu.”
La Revue des Vins de France: 17-18/20 “Endowed with pure fruit, generous liqueur, it is balanced by the finesse, the minerality of the soil.”

The 2013 vintage in the press:
Vinous (N. Martin - May 2023): 92/100 “The 2013 Doisy-Daëne showed better than the bottle poured at the vertical two years earlier. this has a fresh and perfumed nose with pressed white flower, lemon verbena and light minerally scents - a touch of white linen and less of the honeysuckle. The palate is well balanced with superb weight and tension, not the most complex Barsac, yet focused with a fresh, saline finish that counters the botrytised fruit. Very fine. ”
Classified among the first growths of Sauternes during the classification of 1855, the vineyard of Rayne Vigneau (84 hectares, including 62 in one piece) is famous for its soil, which is well known to geologists, as it is composed of a great variety of precious minerals of Pyrenean origin. Without losing sight of these "luxurious" origins " Rayne Vigneau offers smooth, easily accessible wines with floral aromas that are particularly marked in their youth.
The 2022 vintage in the press:
Vinous (N. Martin - January 2025): 93/100 "The 2022 Rayne-Vigneau has a slightly Germanic feel on the nose, with a light petrol note that percolates through the honeyed fruit. The palate is well balanced with a fresh opening and light pear and passionfruit tones mixed with a touch of pineapple, leading to a viscous, nectarine- and peach skin- tinged finish. This is very promising."
J-M Quarin (February 2025): 93/100 "Yellow colour with green highlights. Very aromatic and subtle nose, smelling of ripe fruit. Airy and meticulous on the palate, with a graceful touch and a melting body that evolves into a long, delicately roasted persistence. Very good."

Administered by the Rothschilds (Mouton) since 1996, Coutet has joined the leading pack of the biggest Sauternes after Yquem. Like Climens, it is a true Barsac, pure and remarkably subtle, but with a more marked liquor. Since 2005, Coutet has been in great shape! In a rare feat, the exceptional 2020 vintage came top (ahead of Yquem) in the Revue du Vin de France's ranking of Sauternes 2020 « un sommet de pureté, de précoce harmonie, de naturel ! ».
The 2020 vintage in the press:
La Revue du Vin de France (Guide 2026): 97/100 “As expressive as ever, supremely distinguished and harmonious. This is undoubtedly one of the great successes of the vintage in Sauternes; however, the immediate appeal of the fruit is giving way to a more tactile and honeyed profile, which is entirely natural.”
Vinous (N.Martin - January 2024): 93/100 “The 2020 Coutet has a promising nose with dried honey, nectarine, Clementine and saffron scents, though it doesn't quite have the complexity of the best Sauternes. The palate is well balanced with a tangy opening, fine depth and better acidity than others in this flight. Marmalade and quince tones emerge toward the finish as this lingers nicely in the mouth. Very fine.”
La Revue du Vin de France, ranked 1st among Sauternes 2020 (September 2023): 98/100 “Coutet 2020 is very racy from the outset, even if it gives pride of place to fresh fruit in this vintage with little botrytization. Tonic from start to finish, it hides the opulence of its liqueur behind this obvious fruit. A summit of purity, precocious harmony and naturalness”.

The 2016 vintage in the press:
Vinous (N. Martin - February 2026): 92/100 "The 2016 Coutet has a more backward nose: dried honey, almond, marmalade coming through with time, just a light lanolin aroma. The palate is well balanced, with a viscous opening. Fine depth, the acidity well judged, although it just needs a little more complexity and personality towards the finish. What you might call a "solid" Sauternes"
Vinous (N.Martin - February 2024): 91/100 “The 2016 Coutet is a vintage that I am ambivalent towards. It feels a little strict and lean on the nose, missing the presence and concentration of the previous vintage. The palate is well balanced with quince and tangerine, with moderate depth, yet it needs more acidity and bite on the finish.”
J-M Quarin (March 2019): 93/100 “Yellow color with green highlights. Very aromatic, spicy and complex nose. Caressing on the attack, juicy on development, very aromatic, the wine melts on the palate, tasty, long and very charming. Very good.”

Vinous (N.Martin - February 2022): 92/100 “The 2012 Coutet is well-defined with wild honey, acacia and honeysuckle notes, not amazingly complex but pure. The palate is well balanced with a viscous entry, fine acidity, plenty of botrytis here with a slightly tangy finish. Fine cohesion here, this should drink well for 15 years or so.”
Rothschild (de Lafite) property. Adjacent to Yquem, Rieussec was until 2012 one of the sweetest wines of Sauternes, revealing itself only after a minimum of 10 years of cellaring. First (r)evolution from 2013 towards a more elegant and delicate style, combining richness and finesse.
Second (r)evolution in 2019 with a drastic tightening of the selections, Rieussec thought as the "head cream" of Château Rieussec, accompanied by a total break of the visual codes: new bottle, new labeling, new repositionable cork, new packaging (box of 4 bottles). Rieussec is now positioned on the second step of Sauternes behind Yquem.

Vinous (N. Martin - January 2022): 97/100 "The 2019 Rieussec is absolutely gorgeous. Gracious and supremely elegant in feel, the 2019 is immediately impressive. An exotic melange of lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, passionfruit and tangerine oil opens effortlessly. The 2019 is compelling from start to finish. Harvest tool place from October 8 to 15, in three passes. The 2019 is the first vintage that will be offered in a stylish new bottle. It is no secret Sauternes has struggled of late. I must say I really liked the new and very modern presentation, which shows a more playful side of Sauternes that might just work in creating a bite more excitement around these wines."
Hachette (Guide 2023): Coup de ♥ “A sublime Rieussec, with exceptional balance and elegance.”
J-M Quarin (April 2023): 93/100 “The palate heralds the great return of Rieussec.”

Vinous (N. Martin - January 2021): 93/100 "The 2018 Rieussec does come across a little oaky on the nose, although that is always the case here. Underneath lies plenty of honeyed fruit touches of lemon curd, almond and apricot the palate is well balanced, offering very pure honeyed fruit laced with vanilla, almond and hints of nougat, and more apricot and peach toward the finish. This will be a very seductive Rieussec, but afford it 4-5 years to fully assimilate the oak."

The 2010 vintage in the press:
Vinous (N. Martin - September 2023): 93/100 “It has since opened with saffron-tinged honeyed fruit, dried honey and almond shavings. This example is more vanillary and oaky than previous ones, and that actually distracts from the terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied; again, the new oak feels more prominent than previous bottles, prompting me to lower my score. It's utterly seductive but articulates more of the winemaking than i would like.”
In the commune of Preignac, Suduiraut offers a wine that reflects its geographical position: halfway between Sauternes and Barsac. The latest vintages are dazzling in terms of contained power and aromatic distinction : La Revue du Vin de France awarded the 2016 vintage 99/100, describing it as “masterful”, Vinous (Galloni) awarded the 2023 vintage 100/100: “A model of modern Sauternes, of absolute finesse and smoothness. A timeless wine that ranks among the finest achievements of the year” and according to Bettane & Desseauve (Guide 2025), “Yquem is the only wine that can still do a little better”.
The 2023 vintage in the press:
Vinous (A. Galloni – March 2026): 100/100 “The 2023 Suduiraut is a model of modern Sauternes. Orange peel, burnt sugar, crème-brûlée, tangerine peel, and wild flowers inform a Sauternes of total finesse and silkiness. Yields were a measly 12 hectoliters per hectare. The 150 grams of residual sugar are not especially evident. Everything about the 2023 is perfectly judged. It can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring or cellared for decades. The 2023 is a timeless wine that is among the most notable successes of the year."
J-M Quarin (March 2026): 95/100 "Yellow colour with coppery highlights. Intense, refined, fruity and pure nose. Hints of fresh almonds. Delicate on the palate, very aromatic in the middle, with graceful texture and a mellow body, the wine develops into a juicy, smooth and dynamic wine. It finishes with a slightly spicy note and is impossible to spit out."
Vinous (N. Martin - February 2026): 97/100 "The 2023 Suduiraut is a knockout Sauternes for the vintage. Very pure on the nose with wild honey, apricot and touches of lychee, this is packed with botrytised fruit. The palate has just the right amount of viscosity without overloading in terms of weight, making this relatively easier drinking compared to other vintages. Irresistible. 150 g/L residual sugar."

Vinous (A. Galloni - December 2022): 96/100 "The 2020 Suduiraut, 100% Sémillon in this vintage, is a dense, tightly wound wine that is going to need a number of years to come around. Passionfruit, ginger, spice, mint, apricot and tangerine peel build nicely in the glass. The 2020 is a blend of four picks from mid-September to early November. All the elements are so nicely balanced. Tge 2020 is simply exquisite."

Vinous (N. The palate is well balanced, with a viscous, almost unctuous opening. This is richer and heavier in style than many 2016 Sauternes, but maybe just loses some detail and precision on the finish."

These 5 first growths of the commune of Bommes (Sauternes) have joined forces to offer in each vintage a limited edition in a luxurious case containing a bottle of each one plus, it is unprecedented, a sixth bottle resulting from the blending of their 5 wines as soon as they are matured in barrels.
Climens has been, for more than 50 years, the finest, the fruitiest and the most endearing of the Sauternes wines. Almost discreet in its first youth, Climens does not cease to develop and to refine itself in bottle. Biodynamic since the 2014 vintage. Magnificent 2016 "a fruit of an exemplary purity" noted 99/100 by the Revue du Vin de France.
Following four years of virtually no production (none in 2017, 2018 and 2020, barely 1,200 bottles in 2019), Climens changed hands in 2022 and now belongs to the Moitry family, who are determined to turn a new page in the history of this legendary wine (while retaining the technical team put in place by Bérénice Lurton).

Like before it opens wonderfully in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with fine definition, fresh and vibrant with a creamy honeyed texture, praline and apricot, on the seductive finish. Superb."

La Revue du Vin de France (November 2023): 96/100 “The color is already evolved, and so is the nose, but that suits this barsac from the 2010 vintage very well. It opens with saffron, kumquat and bergamot. Lots of noble bitterness. It's an energetic wine with great persistence”.
Vinous (N. Martin - April 2022): 90+/100 "The 2010 Climens has just been a bit variable bottle-to-bottle. This was a transitional Climens as biodynamics was being introduced. Again, I find this subdued at the moment, perhaps going through a sulky adolescent stage. The palate is well balanced with a menthol-tinged entry, fine depth and acidity, more expressive towards the finish with a touch of lemongrass on the aftertaste."

The 2005 vintage in the press:
Vinous (N. Martin - June 2025): 97/100 "The 2005 Climens is consistent with previous bottles. The nose is quite deep with barley sugar, fig jam, apricot and orange blossom scents. The palate is well balanced and very pure with a fresh and effervescent entry, a keen line of acidity and a vivid, Clementine- and apricot-infused finish. So much energy here—this is outstanding."
The most mythical vintage of Bordeaux, among all! Already, in 1855, it was the only cru to be recognized as a premier cru classé supérieur, placing it above the red premiers crus classés. Since its acquisition by LVMH in 2001, Yquem has been pampered and kept on a tight leash like never before.
The 2023 vintage in the press:
J-M Quarin (March 2026): 99/100 "Golden yellow color. Complex and deep nose. Hints of ripe white fruit, fresh almonds, and spices. Ultra-refined when swirled. Crystal clear on the palate, very aromatic in the middle, with indescribable grace, very airy, the wine slowly melts on the palate towards a long, noble and very fragrant finish. A very great white wine, even if sweet, because it is delicious and has an insatiable sapidity."
Vinous (N. Martin - March 2026) : 99/100 « The nose is so seductive that it should come with a warning sticker. Pure and mellow, it offers beguiling scents of wild honey, quince jelly, almond shavings and that signature hint of saffron destined to accentuate with age. It displays wonderful definition, though it does not have the "aromatic drama" of the previous vintage. The palate has exquisite balance and poise that belies the depth of this Yquem, though it is less exuberant, less ostentatious than the 2022. It is really the umami sensation that defines the 2023, how it caresses, almost soothes the grateful taste buds, vanilla and flecks of white chocolate lingering on the aftertaste. This will probably drink a little sooner than the 2022. If the 2023 does have a fault, it's that it is so flattering in its flush of youth that it will be difficult to resist. Sublime. »

The 2021 vintage in the press:
La Revue du Vin de France (Guide 2026): 97/100 “2021, from a vintage with poor yields (but less so at Yquem than elsewhere), delivers an eminently distinguished wine, open, with prominent acidity that is present without ever being dominant. It is not an imposing Yquem, but its classic elegance and early drinkability are remarkable.”
Hachette (Guide 2025) : Coup de coeur ♥ « Ample and energetic from the attack, the material takes its ease in a voluptuous mouth, unctuous and caressing, more floral in its expression, supported in filigree by a hell of a freshness that stretches and illuminates the fruit in a saline and bittersweet finish. An emotional jury described it as a monument of elegance and purity. Great art. »
J-M Quarin (February 2024): 97/100 “Delicate vanilla touch when the glass is shaken. Magic on the palate! This is a white wine before being a sweet white wine. Ultra-noble texture. Distinguished aromas. Beautiful relief from the middle to the finish. Great length. Unbeatable!”
Vinous (N. Martin - January 2024): 96/100 “Slightly burnished in hue, it has a very attractive bouquet with scents of dried quince, clementine, linseed and subtle candle wax, perhaps more discrete than usual, but certainly fresh and vibrant. The palate is medium-bodied and viscous on the entry, a Yquem with perhaps a lighter chassis challenging season. It opens wonderfully in the glass, gaining more frangipane and kaki fruit scents, though it seems to have a lighter and more tensile finish than the 2020 or 2019. As such, I suspect that it will be comparatively approachable and, of course, delicious.”

The 2020 vintage in the press:
La Revue du Vin de France (Guide 2026): 97/100 “Magnificent length and lush glycerol, in a less botrytized vein but already capable of giving great emotions.”
Coup de ♥ du Guide Hachette 2024 “a particularly expressive, very floral and fruity (exotic fruit, citrus, peach, apricot, fresh almond...)”
La Revue du Vin de France (December 2023): 98/100 “Its sumptuous perfume evokes tangerine. It coats the palate with a sensation of tangy candy. Suave yet weightless, it is balanced by a melted breeding that carries it through to length.”
Bettane et Desseauve (Guide 2024): 97/100
Vinous (N.Martin - January 2024): 94+/100 “The 2020 Yquem has a slightly more Germanic nose than its peers, with a touch of petrol behind the veneer of dried honey, apricot and saffron. The palate is well balanced, with juste a little oak to be subsumed. It's very poised. Well-judged acidity drives through the harmonious finish. Give th three or four years in bottle for that wood to be assimilated, and you will have a sophisticated Sauternes on your hands ( and a score in line with the one tasted at the estate in 2023).”
