Totally surrounded by classified growths, La Gurgue enjoys a privileged terroir, and the attentive care of Mrs Villars (also owner of Ferrière, classified growth of Margaux, and Haut-Bages-Libéral, classified growth of Pauillac), voted Winemaker of the Year 2024 by La Revue du Vin de France. Certainly the best quality/price/pleasure ratio in the appellation.
Vinous (A. Galloni) : 90-92/100 « The 2024 La Gurgue is still coming together in elevage. It offers very good depth, even if the tanins need time to fully integrate. Yields were punishingly low at 12HL per hectare. Claire Villars-Lurton chose not to chaptalize the 2024. Time in the glass brings out pretty floral overtones that complement a core of red-toned fruit. There’s good potential here. »
