The arrival of Mr. Derenoncourt as a consultant in 2002 relaunched Prieuré-Lichine, giving it first of all a better aromatic dimension thanks to a more mature grape. The limitation of yields since 2009 has resulted in additional density and volume, which he lacked to compete with his peers. Progress hailed by the Revue du Vin de France, notably for its 2020, rated 95/100 « the most complete in a long time ».
Bettane+Desseauve : 93-94/100 “Elegance and body blend harmoniously in this Margaux, underpinned by balanced tannins and a beautifully consistent style. As is often the case, the value for money is particularly impressive.”
La Revue du Vin de France : 92-94/100 “Without striving for power, this wine focuses on suppleness and finesse. The texture, fluid and caressing, unfolds smoothly. A fresh, easy-drinking finish rounds off this approachable wine.”
Vinous (A. Galloni) : 92-94/100 "The 2025 Prieuré-Lichine is terrific. I won't be surprised if it turns out even better than this note suggests. Floral overtones weave through a core of dark red/purplish fruit, all framed by silky tannins. This is classic Prieuré-Lichine, with perhaps a bit more fruit density than most years. A pretty appealing combination in my book."
Vinous (N. Martin) : 90-92/100 "The palate is medium-bodied with a graphite-tinged entry. Edgy tannins, fine depth, structured more than recent vintages and demonstrating more persistence. Good potential—hopefully the aromatics will muster a bit more complexity because the palate deserves it."
Le Point : 17.5-18/20 Coup de ♥ “Black berries, chocolate, silky and elegant on the palate, good length, fine tannins, appealing and well-structured, with a spicy finish.”
