A grand cru with an almost monopoly, Clos des Lambrays is one of the best exposed terroirs on the Côte de Nuits, combining the power of a Chambertin with the velvety character of a Bonnes-Mares. Bought in 2014 by L.V.M.H. and still rated three stars in the Revue du Vin de France guide.
La Revue du Vin de France (March 2025): 100/100 “Chiseled, ripe and harmonious wine, fleshy and energetic, perfectly proportioned. Everything is intense, integrated and penetrating in this dynamic, slender Pinot, with wonderfully silky tannins.”
Owning the largest parcel (6 ha) of Clos Vougeot and the only producer vinifying and maturing its wines within the Clos, Château de la Tour is the custodian of the Clos Vougeot tradition. Always vinified unstemmed, its wines are powerful (certified organic from the 2021 vintage), structured and long-lasting.
Rated two stars in the Revue du Vin de France annual guide.
Vinous (January 2025): 91-93/100 “The 2023 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Cuvée Classique is picked plot by plot, with some destemmed and some whole cluster depending on the parcel-around 50% on average in the final blend. It has an attractive nose, displaying a mixture of red and black fruit, a little damp loam and light espresso scents in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. There is not as much depth and grip as the previous vintage, but it's lightly spiced with a touch of black pepper ont the aftertaste. This is delightful and probably on par with the 2022, albeit in a different, more open style.”

Vinous (January 2025): 92-94/100 “The 2023 Clos Vougeot Vieilles vignes Grand Cru has a plush nose with red cherries, kirsch, marmalade and incense aromas that have a slightly Mediterannean personality-finely delineated and more open-knit than the Cuvée Classique. The palate is well structured with finely chiseled tannins. It is a little savory in style with persistent peppery finish. The 2023 is excellent, although the 2022 will probably have the "legs" for long-term cellaring.”
Owned by AXA Millésimes since 1987, Domaine de l'Arlot spans 15 hectares between Nuits-Saint-Georges (Prémeaux) and Vosne-Romanée. This is an estate of excellence, producing some of the most intense, precise whites on the Côte de Nuits, as well as dense reds with chiselled structures that are simultaneously fleshy and delicate. Rated three stars in the Revue du Vin de France guide.

Bourgogne Aujourd'hui (September 2024): 15.5/20 “Intense purplish color. Aromas of fresh red and black fruits. The wine is greedy, silky, full of well-balanced fruit.”

Bourgogne Aujourd'hui (September 2024): 16/20 “The nose is fruity, precise (strawberry, cherry, blood orange), the palate as ample as it is fresh, with a mineral base and great length.”
François Labet, owner of Château de la Tour in Vougeot, manages the family estate (10 ha in Beaune and Gevrey) with equal talent. He applies the same quality principles: organic farming, non-éraflée harvesting, long ageing (two winters minimum). Far from being the most talked-about domaine, but a wise choice for connoisseurs, according to Bourgogne Aujourd'hui: "to be seized as a matter of urgency, as the quality of the wines has been so consistent for a very long time".
Vinous (January 2025): 90-92/100 “The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is a blend of three parcels on either sandy or clay soils; more stems from the sandier soils were used. The nose shows a little exoticism behind the red fruit with hints of kirsch and tangerines, but it is still well defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite elegant in style, with a nice piquancy that attenuates just a little toward the finish. more early-drinking, but certainly weel crafted.”

Vinous (January 2025): 89-91/100 “Beaune Les Coucherias 1er Cru 2023 comes from a south-facing parcel (according to Labet, the name comes from the words ‘raide’ and ‘buissons’). Half of this parcel was replanted in 2020. Another highly perfumed bouquet offers fruits such as raspberry and wild strawberry with lovely delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp red fruit, a little compact on the mid-palate, with gentle grip and an easygoing finish. Fine.”

A blend of grenache, roussanne, clairette and bourboulenc, this white Châteauneuf plays the card of freshness and discretion. With aromas of white peach and orange blossom, its natural power will be fully expressed after 5 to 6 years of aging.

Thanks to vines (Syrah) 60 years old, Michel Tardieu produces a 'grand' Crozes-Hermitage. Divided between fruit and minerality, in a round and silky style more Burgundian than Rhodanian, a perfect introduction to the Hermitage's wines.

This Saint-Joseph Vieilles Vignes is a perfect balance between the gourmet raspberry/cherry fruit (as in Hermitage) and the mineral tension of the schist and granite subsoil (as in Cornas). Syrah and serine (small syrah), aged 60 and over 100 years respectively.

A new cuvée created in 2017, a Côte-Rôtie Vieilles Vignes from the heart of the hillside on the major terroirs of the Côte Brune. Phenomenal concentration, energetic tannin, a compact but refined wine, to wait at least 10 years before considering tasting.

More roundness and flesh than Côte-Rôtie, with a texture of fatty and melting tannins, the solar side of the Hermitage hillside is perfectly highlighted here.

Built like a "small" Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this Gigondas is just as velvety, just as fruity, but slightly softer. Very strong majority of grenache (vines aged from 60 to more than 100 years), completed with syrah and mourvèdre.

In addition to his classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Michel Tardieu produces an original cuvée, the Cuvée Spéciale, 100% century-old Grenache, which is incredibly rich and voluptuous. A superlative wine aged in barrels in barrels of at least one wine (no new barrels to best express the sweetness of old grenaches).
