The “Blanc de noirs”2019 vintage in the press:

La Revue du Vin de France (Guide 2026) : 94/100 Coup de ♥

Vinous (A.Galloni - April 2025): 94/100 "The 2019 Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs is another gorgeous wine this range from Philipponnat. Power and energy meld together in a wine of striking presence. Most of the malolactic fermentation (70%) was blocked, wich contributed palpable tension throughout. Kirsh, white flowers, mint, white pepper and chalk build into the vibrant, saline-drenched finish. This is a stellar showing. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter."

La Revue du Vin de France (Guide 2026) : 94/100 "The 2018 1522 cuvée reveals its full potential: the flesh has gained in complexity, and the whole is rich but balanced, with a refined structure."

Vinous (A. Galloni - April 2025) : 93/100 "The 2018 Extra Brut 1522 is a blend of 72% Pinot Noir from Aÿ and 28% from Oger. Ample and resonant in the glass, the 2018 is a wine of notable stature. Pinot is very much front and center in both the wine's flavor profile and structural feel. Red plum, kirsch, spice, chamomile, leather and dried flowers build into the huge, palate-staining finish. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged : October 2023."

Spice, dried pear, mint and chamomile are some of the notes that grace the 2016. There's lovely aromatic presence and enough mid-palate pliancy to make for highly enjoyable drinking for at least the nest handful of years. Vinous (A. Galloni - March 2024): 93/100 “The 2014 Extra-Brut Clos des Goisses is aromatic, soft-spoken and quiet in demeanor. this is an especially floral, delicate Goisses with lovely floral top notes and decidedly mid-weight structure. Cuvée "246" in the press:

Vinous (A. Galloni - April 2025): 93/100 “The NV Brut Collection 246 is positively stellar. It’s a terrific example of where Roederer is going with this cuvée stylistically. Brisk saline notes cut through a core of orchard fruit, mint, white pepper and slate. There are no hard angles or awkward contours. The 246 is based on 2021, an extremely tricky vintage for Champagne. Chef de Caves Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon bumped up the percentage of Chardonnay considerably and focused on Pinots from the Montagne de Reims. About 30% of the lots underwent malolactic fermentation to soften the edges. Twenty-four percent of the wines were fermented in oak, the rest in tank. The 246 is a blend of 55% base 2021 vintage wines described above, plus 30% perpetual reserve going back to 2012 (mostly from Cumières, Vertus and Verzy) in tank and 10% young-vine juice from Cristal plots aged in cask. The final blend is 54% Chardonnay (as opposed to the more typical 44%), 35% Pinot Noir and 11% Meunier. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. More importantly, the 246 is impeccably done and absolutely delicious."

Maison Roederer has been regaining its lustre since 2010, under the guidance of its excellent cellar master Mr. Lecaillon, a firm believer in permaculture and agroforestry who in 2018 put half (120 ha) of the vineyard into organic conversion. The House's style is now oriented towards straightforwardness and salinity, refined and uncluttered wines.

The range begins with the cuvée Collection, as much an aperitif champagne as a meal wine, thanks to the addition of reserve wines. Then come three vintages (Brut, Rosé and Blanc de Blancs) to conclude with Cristal, their world-famous flagship cuvée.

Collection is a multi-vintage blend, dominated by chardonnay (40%) and pinots noir and meunier. Collection n°243 is built around the 2018 harvest (59%), blended with 41% reserve wines from vintages 2009 to 2017.

The cuvée ‘Collection n°243’ in the press:

Vinous (A. Galloni - November 2022): 93/100 "The NV Collection 243 is bright, punchy and wonderfully effusive, the 243 really shows the more vibrant style Roederer is going for with their new entry-level NV bottling. Citrus peel white, flowers, mint, slate and a host of saline notes build nicely. This is impressive, to say the least."

Vinous (A. Galloni - March 2024): 93/100 "The 2016 Vintage is terrific. Rich, creamy and super-expressive, the 2016 is an absolute delight. All this fruit is from Roederer's La Montagne estate, with Pinot Noir very much driving the blend. That comes through in a Champagne of notable textural resonance and breadth that grows with air. Hints of apricot, plum, spice and dried flowers caress the palate, all framed by a discreet touch of oak and extra kick of texture from a few lots (5%) that underwent malolactic fermentation. This is a superb edition of the vintage. The blend is 68% Pinot Noir and 32% Chardonnay. Here, the richness of the warm summer very much comes through."

This is an especially nervy edition of the Rosé. It will appeal most to readers who enjoy taut, vibrant Champagnes. The blend is 62% Pinot Noir (all from Cumières) and 38% Chardonnay (from Chouilly), with the energy of Cumières very much driving the blend. The Pinot came in the early side, which was necessary to avoid rot. It is a fine effort in a vintage in which Roederer made just two vintage Champagnes, the Rosé and Blanc de Blancs."

Citrus peel white flowers, mint and a touch of chamomile all grace this understaded, wonderfully refined edition of Cristal. Light on its feet and super-refined, the 2016 is exquisite in its understated beauty. I can't wait to see how the 2016 ages and won't be surprised it gains a bit of weight in bottle, as Cristal so often does. The blend is 58% Pinot Noir and 42% Chardonnay, so a touch more Chardonnay than the norm. Of the 45 parcels that make up the Cristal domaine, just 32 were used for the blend. Verzy and Vernezay dominate the Pinots, then Aÿ. Avize takes the lead in the Chardonnays, followed by Mesnil and Cramant."

Continuing a tradition dating back to the early 20th century, Fonréaud (Listrac) produces a confidential white wine on 3 hectares, very dry and tense, just like the Pavillon blanc de Margaux and, like it, an archetype of dry Médoc whites. And with great regularity, as Bettane & Desseauve (Guide 2025) rightly points out, “Cygne de Fonréaud is a great success, always impeccably precise and fresh in every vintage”.

The 2023 vintage in the press:

Vinous (N. Martin - February 2026): 90/100 "The 2023 Le Cygne has improved on the nose since I tasted it from barrel, with much more precise, quite minerally malic fruit. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, taut and fresh, with a very appealing nectarine and yellow plum finish. I underestimated this from barrel, and it deserves a higher score."

The 2023 vintage in the press :

Vinous (A. Galloni – March 2026): 94/100 "The 2023 Blanc Sec Doisy-Daëne is superb, a wine that immediately distinguishes itself from its peer group because of its textural density and complexity. Dried herbs, chalk, mint and lemon oil are some of the notes that build into the pure, crystalline finish."

    Bettane + Desseauve (Guide 2026) : 92/100

J-M Quarin (March 2026): 91/100Pale color. Intense, pure, and very fruity nose. Hint of orange. Meticulous on the palate, subtle in the middle, with a distinguished character, the wine finishes long and sappy. A very fine Sauvignon Blanc.

The 2022 vintage in the press:

Vinous (N. Martin – January 2026): 90/100 “The 2022 Doisy-Daëne Grand Vin Sec has a bold nose with expressive tropical scents, grapefruit and limoncello aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is balanced with good weight, a little minty in style, a dab of tangy grapefruit towards the finish and stem ginger tingling on the aftertaste.”

J.M Quarin (February 2025): 89/100 "Pale colour. Intense, fine, pure and fruity nose. Delicate on the entry, very aromatic in the middle, the wine melts on the palate towards a sappy finish. Normal length."

The 2023 vintage in the press:

Vinous (A. Galloni – March 2026): 92/100 "The 2023 Clos Floridène Blanc is quite pretty and delicate. Gentle hints of lemon oil, chalk, chamomile, slate, dried herbs and white flowers grace this understated, classy dry white. Floral and mineral notes lift the crystalline finish.”

Vinous (N. Martin - February 2026): 92/100 “The 2023 Clos Floridene Blanc over-performs, yet again, with a lovely nose with bright, crisp Golden Delicious and Conference pear scents, an underlying mineralité that lends complexity. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity that counterbalances the concentration locked into this white from the Dubourdieu family. Great length and given the price... a steal.”

La Revue du Vin de France (December 2025): 92/100 "Immediately apparent from its colour, the 2023 white develops a generous, pure aromatic expression, far from standardisation, suggesting yellow peach and warm biscuit. But above all, it is a wine of substance, whose beautiful maturity is perfectly supported by the freshness of the limestone base."

J-M Quarin (March 2026): 91/100Pale color. Intense, fruity, and subtle nose. Delicate on the attack, smooth on the mid-palate, with flavor, the wine stretches out on the finish, fragrant, long, and difficult to spit out.” Outsider

The 2021 vintage in the press:

Vinous (Neal Martin - November 2023): 90/100 “The 2021 Clos floridene Blanc has a commendable bouquet of white-flower-tinged citrus fruit, gaining vigor ine the glass with each swirl. The palate is well-balanced with a tangy entry-mango and persimmon, becoming peachier toward the well-defined finish. This is a delicisous white Pessac that will be difficult to resist in its youth."

    Jean-Marc Quarin (February 2024): 90/100

Stéphane Dief, owner of Clos Manou, had long dreamed of producing a great dry white wine on his terroir at the northern tip of the Médoc, a region particularly suited to the slow maturation of white grapes thanks to its eminently temperate climate (bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean and to the east by the Gironde estuary). This dream became a reality in 2020 with the creation of Clos Albus in Valeyrac, a 1.85-hectare plot planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle. 2023 is its first vintage, with floral aromas (acacia and broom) and a hint of vanilla.

Known for its red wine, Château Rollan de By also owns 2 ha of alluvial sands on the Gironde estuary, which were planted with Sauvignon Blanc some 30 years ago with the intention of producing a great Medoc white wine.

The owner, Mr. Guyon, decided to apply to the letter the traditional practices for the elaboration of a neat white wine, in the vineyard (high density of 6500 vines per hectare, 100% grassing, manual harvest in crates...) as well as in the cellar (no fining, no filtration, the wine is only clarified by successive rackings, maturing in French oak barrels...).

But he has also integrated the qualitative precepts of today's oenology: short pre-fermentation maceration, low temperature vinification, stirring of the lees, minimal sulfiting...

In a way, the best of both worlds (ancient and modern) are combined to best express the temperate oceanic climate of the northern tip of the Médoc, ideal for white wines: optimal sunshine, mild temperatures without excess, regular rainfall.

Its 2019 vintage is exciting, with a combination of minty freshness and saline minerality, on a full, creamy and deep palate. The richness that envelops the texture of this wine is reminiscent of Meursault, perhaps that's why it's bottled in a Burgundy bottle?
