Second wine of Quintus, in a finely extracted, mellow and melting style.
Rated 90/100 by Neal Martin after bottling « Open and approachable with peppery notes towards the harmonious finish. Delicious. » (February 2020)

In a denser and more opulent register than Haut-Brion, La Mission is a potential premier cru. Exceptional 2010 rated 19.5/20 by the Revue du Vin de France "A monumental wine, even superior in terms of balance to the spectacular 2009" and formidable 2017 rated 96/100 by M. Galloni (Vinous) "Effortless, graceful and wonderfully nuanced, this 2017 has simply everything for him. What a wine!".
Rated 94/100 by Neal Martin after bottling « The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, very focused and refined with darker fruit compared to the nose. Traces of tar and cedar surface towards the classic finish that linger nicely, although Haut-Brion just has a tad more persistence and depth. Superb. » (February 2020)
Rated 96/100 by Antonio Galloni after bottling « In 2017, La Mission plays very much in the red fruit and floral end of the spectrum. Effortless, gracious and wonderfully nuanced, the 2017 simply has it all. What a wine! » (March 2020)
» (Oct. 2020)

The 2010 was rated 98+/100 by Wine Advocate "a strong candidate for a perfect score in 15 years" and 19.5/20 by the Revue du Vin de France "a monumental wine, even better in terms of balance than the spectacular 2009".
Re-tasted 10 years later by the Revue du Vin de France, it is rated 19/20 "this very intense wine, massive on the palate, is far from having said it all. It impresses by its attack, its fleshy mouth and the opulence of its very coated fruit".
Always a reference for Graves, with this intense bouquet of fresh earth, smoke and pine resin characteristic of the appellation. Its location in the heart of the Bordeaux conurbation makes it the earliest first growth on the left bank, a clear advantage in vintages of freshness.
Rated 97/100 by the Revue du Vin de France « Profil très puissant, particulièrement carré pour Haut-Brion, très dynamique sans être charnu, long, séveux, musculeux, sculptural. » (Nov. 2020)
Rated 100/100 by En Magnum « En bouteille, je retrouve ce côté incroyable qui résume tout ce que j'aime dans un grand Bordeaux. La caresse, le velouté, la noblesse de texture et de tannins et cette grande personnalité absolument unique. » (Apr. 2020)

Quintus because the fifth wine of Domaines Dillon after Haut-Brion (red and white) and Mission (red and white), created by combining Tertre-Daugay purchased in 2011 and L'Arrosée purchased in 2012. The intrusion of a first growth classified on the left bank of the river in Saint-Emilion was expected at the turn of the century, but Quintus will show a different style from that of its neighbours from 2012, playing the tannic sweetness card first and foremost. More Margaux-Pomerol than Saint-Émilion.
Rated 94/100 by Antonio Galloni « Rich and dense on the palate, Quintus is a bold, hedonistically opulent Saint-Émilion in 2017. Soaring Franc overtones play off the Merlot nicely, adding both aromatic presence and a real feeling of saline intensity that comes through, especially on the finish. » (March 2020)
» (Oct. 2020)

Vintage 2016, « le meilleur jamais fait » according to M. Quarin.

First objective: to make fine and long wines, betting on freshness and delicacy rather than on power or density, more typical of the left bank than the right bank.
Second objective: to shine in the next classifications of Saint-Emilion (its immediate neighbors are Ausone, Belair-Monange, Angélus and Canon, all 1st classified grand crus)
« Superb fruity nose, precise, fresh, clean, with a touch of blackberry. Ultra mellow at the attack, delicate and melting in the middle of the mouth, this wine with an airy body takes on more flavor between the middle and the finish. It finishes long, suave and noble, with no tannic presence, the way a dry white wine should. It is really very good. 54% merlot, 46% cabernet franc. » Rated 93/100.
