As well maintained as Canon-La Gaffelière (same owner), under the direction of Mr. Derenoncourt, Clos de l'Oratoire offers practically the same fullness and intensity for half the price.

Vinous (N. Martin) : 89-91/100 "The 2025 Clos de l'Oratoire was picked September 10 to 22 at 34 hl/ha and matured in 20% new oak barrels. It has a slightly more backward, slightly austere nose at first that opens in the glass. The palate is well balanced with slightly chalky tannins, leaning more towards black fruit, chalky in terms of texture with a tickle of cracked black pepper on the finish. Fine."

Bettane+Desseauve : 92-93/100 “Blackberry, blackcurrant and floral notes combine to create an enticing bouquet. Dense, velvety and elegant on the palate, it gains in precision with each vintage.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 93-95/100 "The 2025 Clos de l'Oratoire is a gorgeous, mid-weight Saint-Émilion. Strong floral and savory inflections open first. Initially deceptive, the 2025 has plenty of power lying in reserve. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, with the Franc very much front and center in the wine's aromatics, saline-infused contours and overall structural feel. This is impeccably done."

Quintus' second wine, Le Dragon de Quintus, is more infused than extracted, delicately wooded, with a beautiful balance between fresh fruit and velvety tannins. A sapid and sensual Dragon.

    See the technical sheet

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 91-93/100 "The 2025 Le Dragon de Quintus is a delight, supple and forward, with gorgeous, pure fruit. The Dragon has a ton to offer in 2025. Soft curves wrap around a core of red cherry/plum fruit, spice and rose petal. All the elements are so nicely balanced."

Vinous (N. Martin) : 90-92/100 "The 2025 Le Dragon de Quintus has a bright and lively bouquet, with peppermint-tinged red fruit that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry, smooth and sensual, with very fine tannins and a poised, lingering finish. This is a classy Le Dragon de Quintus that should give 12 to 15 years' drinking pleasure."

With today 11 ha, the vineyard of Valandraud allows Mr. Thunevin to tighten his selections for the great wine and his second, Virginie de Valandraud (there is a 3rd, Clos Badon, and even a 4th wine!). Rich in colour, always delicious with an elegant tannic structure, Virginie de Valandraud makes those who think that second wines have no soul lie.

    See the technical sheet

Bettane+Desseauve : 94/100 "With its increasingly concentrated flavour profile, this wine offers a lingering creamy smoothness and an already hedonistic charm."

J-M Quarin : 93/100 "Juicy on the attack, soft on the palate, with a lively flavour, this wine develops into a delicious and charming wine with a succulent finish, perfectly complemented by the oak."

La Revue du Vin de France : 92-94/100 “Now produced exclusively from Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens, this cuvée has gained in elegance, with a decidedly less opulent style. Grown on limestone soil, Virginie de Valandraud has developed greater depth and precision, underscored by fresh fruit.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 92-94/100 "The 2025 Virginie de Valandraud is gorgeous. Floral, silky and bright, the 2025 has so much to offer. Vibrant red-toned fruit, white pepper, mint, pomegranate and orange peel sizzle on the palate. I especially admire the wine's energy and long, saline-inflected finish."

Vinous (N. Martin) : 92-94/100 "The 2025 Virginie de Valandraud [...] has a well-defined bouquet with blueberry, iodine and violet scents on the nose. There is a touch more minéralité than usual. The palate is fresh and has a pleasing underlying citrus edginess under the black fruit. Gentle grip, nicely controlled towards the silky finish. Classy."

An oenologist by training, Ms. Papon-Nouvel owns two tiny properties at the bottom of Saint-Émilion near Canon-La Gaffelière: Petit Gravet Aîné (2.4 ha) and Clos Saint-Julien (1.3 ha), where the vines are mainly old cabernets francs. From the vine to the cellar, she manages all the stages in the production of her wines on her own and, whatever the vintage, her talent as an instinctive winemaker gives wines of natural elegance and exemplary sweetness.

    See the data sheet

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 94-96/100 « The 2025 Petit Gravet Ainé is gorgeous. Lifted floral overtones, blood orange, chalk, mint, white pepper and vibrant red-toned fruit sizzle on the palate. This understated Saint-Emilion really has energy and verve. Ifs never the most obvious wine, but if's always classy and full of personality. »

Bettane+Desseauve : 94-95/100 “The Cabernets have a long finish. The floral and peppery notes give the wine its full depth.”

Vinous (N. Martin) : 91-93/100 "The 2025 Petit Gravet Ainé has a powerful nose, with damson and fresh fig scents, though it feels a little too pushed for the vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, quite a bit of extraction, although there is an underlying sapidity that keeps it fresh. It will need a bit of time, but it should eventually mellow."

J-M Quarin : 90/100 « Deep black colour. Intense on the nose. Hints of fresh black fruit. Deep and complex when swirled in the glass. Soft on the palate at first, flavourful in the mid-palate, the wine glides across the palate towards a long, juicy finish, with deep aromas of black fruit. »

Owned by the Lefévère family (Villemaurine, Valandraud), Sansonnet is a little gem east of Saint-Émilion. Its 7-hectare vineyard, a single contiguous plot overlooking Trottevieille, produces dense, round, and charming wines.

    See the technical sheet

Bettane+Desseauve : 95-96/100 “Rich fruit, sensuality and freshness combine to create a silky, elegant texture. Peppery floral notes enliven a very long finish.”

J-M Quarin : 95/100 “Juicy, light, dense and fragrant on the palate, with a particular elegance and a strong return of the aroma on the finish, without any tannic harshness. It’s very good.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 94-96/100 "The 2025 Sansonnet is remarkable. Explosive and racy, it delivers floral overtones that meld into red/purplish fruit, blood orange, sweet spice and cedar. This is an especially mid-weight, refined Sansonnet, a wine that marries finesse with power. The long, resonant finish is so attractive, but everything about the 2025 speaks to superb balance. Élevage is 50% new oak, 20% once-used barrels, 20% foudre and 10% in amphora."

La Revue du Vin de France : 92-93/100 “It is characterised by a rich maturity that envelops a refreshingly high acidity. The nose is reminiscent of a white wine, with notes of peach and blood orange. The palate evokes fruit compote with a zesty edge.”

Vinous (N. Martin) : 91-93/100 "The 2025 Sansonnet comes from a seven-hectare vineyard close to TrotteVieille, 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon on hard limestone, aged 50% in new oak, lower than before when it was 70-80%, plus amphora and wooden vats. It has a powerful nose that manages to retain delineation, with layers of blackberry and bilberry fruit and a touch of vanillary new oak. This has a little more terroir expression than its "sibling", Soutard-Cadet. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins, actually more low-key than the aromatics imply, fresh acidity and decent sapidity on the finish. I am just seeking a little more complexity to materialise."

This 8-hectare vineyard, located on the outskirts of the village of Saint-Émilion, sits directly on the Saint-Émilion asterian limestone bedrock, which features an extensive network of underground quarries. Unlike the rounded Sansonnet, Villemaurine stands out for its freshness, its slender structure, and its aromatic vibrancy.

    See the technical sheet

Bettane+Desseauve : 95/100 “Blackberry, blackcurrant and floral notes combine to create a charming bouquet. On the palate, it combines elegance and depth in a mature style.”

J-M Quarin : 94/100 “A hint of vanilla when the glass is swirled. Delicate on the palate at first, very refined in the mid-palate, with a graceful texture; the wine melts on the finish, which is long, succulent and fragrant, with no harsh tannins. It’s very good.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 93-95/100 "The 2025 Villemaurine is impressively deep and polished, even if there is some reduction. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, grilled herbs and lavender convey tons of textural intensity and sheer power. A reduction in new oak and the introduction of casks for both vinification and élevage are some of the recent developments here."

La Revue du Vin de France : 92-93/100 “We should commend the skilful handling of this vintage, which has resulted in a wine with crisp fruit, intense citrus notes and a delicate texture. The palate is clear and pure, with velvety tannins.”

Vinous (N. Martin) : 91-93/100 "The 2025 Villemaurine  has a refined nose, mainly red fruit (strawberry and raspberry) with hints of pressed violet in the background. The oak is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with bright red cherry and strawberry fruit that dovetails into darker fruit towards the structured finish. There is a pleasing fluidity to this Villemaurine with a peppery aftertaste. Quite a serious wine."

From 2005, La Dominique, prestigious terroir adjacent to Cheval Blanc, L'Évangile and La Conseillante, returns in great shape. His velvety and sensual style places him halfway between Saint-Émilion and Pomerol : “the tannin texture is very Pomerol-like, then the silky, floral, firm follow-through continues with the class of the great Saint-Emilions” (Bettane & Desseauve).

    See the data sheet

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 94-96/100 « The 2025 La Dominique is terrific. This is one of the best vintages of La Dominique | can remember fasting. Aromatic, silky and exceptionally polished, La Dominique impresses right out of the gate. Bracing saline notes extend the clean, reverberating finish. A sleeper. »

Bettane+Desseauve : 94/100 "Floral notes accompany a smooth, well-balanced palate with a long finish and just the right amount of persistence."

Vinous (N. Martin) : 92-94/100 « The 2025 La Dominique is a significant step up from the Deuxieme Vin this year: vivid red and black fruit, a touch of cedar and a more floral style, with violet and iris flowers. Fine delineation. The polate is well balanced, with rounded, velvety tannins, good depth and a judicious touch of white pepper sprinkled over the finish. This should drink well for 15 to 20 years »

J-M Quarin : 92/100 « A beautiful, deep, intense red. A very aromatic nose with subtle, ripe fruit notes. A creamy touch when swirled in the glass. Delicate on the palate at first, particularly flavorful in the mid-palate, with a touch of firmness as it unfolds; the wine nevertheless evolves into a smooth, lingering finish. »

Mrs Papon-Nouvel's other grand cru (with Petit Gravet Aîné). Same organic culture, same sensitivity, same style, with extra flesh and depth. Great wine! Great wine, logically promoted to grand cru classé in 2022.

    See the data sheet

Bettane+Desseauve : 96-97/100 “This silky wine is underpinned from start to finish by a refined mineral energy. It has the calibre of a Grand Cru Classé. A real favourite.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 95-97/100 « Clos Saint-Julien is magnificent in 2025. What a wine. Inky and explosive in the glass, but not at all heavy, Clos Saint-Julien has so much to offer. It's classic Saint-Emilion all the way. Plush contours and silky tannins totally envelop the palate. »

J-M Quarin : 95/100 « Couleur noire. »

Dazzling success since 2015 of this great terroir just below Ausone: aromatic precision, superlative but harmonious depth, a big congratulations to Mr. Mallet (owner) and Mr. Derenoncourt (consultant). Since 2010, La Gaffelière is undoubtedly flying from success to success!

"We are here at the heart of what is most sensual and singular in Saint-Emilion", according to the Revue du Vin de France.

    See the technical sheet

J-M Quarin : 98/100 “Full-bodied on the attack, rich and complex on the palate, with plenty of flavour and a refined texture, the wine develops slowly with a velvety mouthfeel. It finishes with increasing depth, noble, profound and flavourful, with a long, lingering finish of violets. A sumptuous success.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 97-99/100 "The 2025 La Gaffelière soars out of the glass with magnificent intensity. Strong Cabernet Franc overtones and bright saline notes from the clay-limestone plateau are finely sketched with tremendous precision. The 2025 bristles with tension from start to finish. It's a phenomenal wine by any measure."

Bettane+Desseauve : 97/100 “Blackberry, graphite and aromatic herbs combine to create a complex bouquet. Velvety, well-structured and with a salty finish, the palate combines depth with a mineral edge.”

Vinous (N. Martin) : 95-97/100 "The 2025 La Gaffelière [...] continues a strong run of form for this rejuvenated Saint-Émilion, with quite ebullient raspberry and wild strawberry scents, a dash of black pepper and brown spices, the Cabernet Franc shaping the aromatics and giving it a Pomerol-like personality. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, impressive weight, quite peppery and tensile; this maintains density and grip through to the long finish. This is a great wine that has great personality and charm."

La Revue du Vin de France : 94-96/100 “The success of the limestone terroirs of the Saint-Émilion plateau in 2025 is confirmed by this resplendent Gaffelière. The nose is composed, precise and well-integrated, with velvety tannins, and the wine is dynamic overall. One of the best buys of this vintage.”

An ultra-refined great wine, with a mineral tension that is out of the ordinary in Bordeaux, the fruit of the great terroir of the Côte Pavie, but also of the complicity of Mr Nicolas Thienpont and Mr Stéphane Derenoncourt since 1994.

    See the technical sheet

Terre de Vins : 96-98/100 Coup de ♥ "This 2025 is a wine of great stature. From the very first sniff, it displays depth and nobility, with richness and aromas centred on violets and elderflower. The attack is striking, the tannic structure coats the palate, and the tension is monumental. A truly great wine destined for the history books. This blend of 78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon has a very low pH, a result of the limestone terroir which imparts a tension found nowhere else. A truly great bottle, matching the quality of the vintage.”

Bettane+Desseauve : 96/100 “Already in fine form, it combines restrained power, a deep, silky texture and mineral energy. Ripe fruit and mineral notes linger on the palate. A must-have for wine lovers.”

J-M Quarin : 96/100 “A hint of resin when the glass is swirled. Delicate on the palate at first, flavourful in the mid-palate, with a lovely development and a slightly resinous flavour, the wine caresses the palate. It is long, flavourful and aromatic, with a consistently rich texture and well-integrated tannins.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 95-97/100 "The 2025 Pavie Macquin is a powerful, structured wine. In most vintages, Pavie Macquin is sensual and silky, but the 2025 is quite tannic in this tasting. Dark-fleshed fruit, chocolate, menthol, licorice, sage and lavender add to an impression of brooding density and pure power. Floral top notes lift the close. I can't wait to see how this ages."

La Revue du Vin de France : 93-96/100 “Right from the nose, you’re immersed in the intense limestone character typical of the terroir, with the minerality taking precedence over the fruit. The balance is particularly striking in its freshness, thanks to the 22% Cabernet. Powdery tannins envelop a medium-bodied wine defined by its mineral tension, with a finish reminiscent of blood orange.”

Immediate neighbour of Pavia, Larcis-Ducasse was logically promoted to 1st Grand Cru Classé in 2012 due to its full south-facing hillside exposure and the brilliant work of the Thienpont-Derenoncourt tandem.

    See the technical sheet

Terre de Vins : 98-99/100 Coup de   "“Light and freshness” is how the team describes the 2025 vintage, and one can hardly disagree. A burst of fruitiness bursts from the glass, releasing a fragrance that is both floral and heady. On the palate, it unfolds with a silky texture, a juicy delicacy. The texture, both airy and grounded, is a model of its kind, given a twist by a finish that is both salty and blood-orange, adding an extra touch of character. Yet another great success for this estate.”

Bettane+Desseauve : 97/100 “The concentration of the grapes and the terroir provide a perfect expression of the tannins and aromas. The Cabernet Franc enhances a peppery, floral and very promising finish.”

J-M Quarin : 97/100 “Deep black colour with purple highlights. Intense, fruity nose. Hints of fresh black fruit. Complex when swirled in the glass. Meticulous on the palate at first, flavourful in the mid-palate, with a delicate richness coating the palate; the wine develops into a full-bodied, juicy, noble wine, leading to a long, complex finish with deep aromas. It’s superb! I haven’t tasted it like this since the 2016 vintage.”

La Revue du Vin de France : 95-97/100 « It clearly stands out for the quality of its sparkling fruit, complemented by delicate floral notes and a subtle hint of limestone. The tannins are very well-defined, enveloped in a velvety texture that brings out a minerality which gives the wine a long finish. The full-bodied structure envelops the whole beautifully.

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 95-97/100 “The 2025 Larcis Ducasse is another exceptional wine from one of the most under-the-radar estates in Saint-Émilion. Dark red-fleshed fruits, rose petal, lavender, mocha, licorice, sage and graphite are all seamless in the glass. The 2025 marries power with finesse to a degree that is exceptionally rare. Lively acids and lifted floral overtones brighten the long, resonant finish."

Vinous (N. Martin) : 95-97/100 “The 2025 Larcis Ducasse has a gorgeous bouquet already, with pure blackberry and cassis fruit, seamlessly integrated new oak, retaining focus and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied, with very fine lace-like tannins, perfectly judged acidity, bright acids towards the finish upholding tension and a silky texture that is totally disarming. Outstanding."

Owned by Mr. Neipperg (Clos de l'Oratoire, La Mondotte, d'Aiguilhe) at the foot of the hill Ausone.

    See the data sheet

Bettane+Desseauve : 96/100 “Ripe fruit, violet, graphite and a hint of pepper combine to create a complex bouquet. Velvety and well-balanced on the palate, it is underpinned by fine tannins and a classy finish.”

La Revue du Vin de France : 94-96/100 “This vintage impresses with the quality of its tannins, offering a high level of refinement. The velvety texture, enhanced by the 45% Cabernet Franc and 15% Sauvignon Blanc, is silky and gives way to a rich minerality, which blends harmoniously and smoothly.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 94-96/100 "The 2025 Canon La Gaffelière is bright and beautifully focused right out of the gate. Orange peel, sage, mint, pipe tobacco, dried flowers and mocha soar out of the glass. Floral aromatics and brisk saline notes are the signatures in a tightly wound Canon La Gaffelière that is going to need a number of years to be at its most expressive. I especially admire the energy here."

Vinous (N. Martin): 91-93/100 "The 2025 Canon La Gaffelière includes only 40% Merlot this year, the remainder, 45% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, picked between September 16 and 19. Matured in 30% new oak barrels, this has a tightly wound nose with blackberry, briar and chalky scents, the Cabernet Franc imparting light graphite scents. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins on the entry. licorice-tinged black fruit, again, a little chalky in texture, but there is more suppleness compared to the Clos de l'Oratoire on the finish. Promising."

Beau-Séjour Bécot is now in the hands of the third generation, represented by Juliette Bécot and her husband Julien Barthe. These dynamic forty-somethings have no shortage of inspiration when it comes to producing “modern” wines, adapted to climatic challenges and consumer expectations: replanting in a north/south direction to avoid overheating the grapes, the choice of a new consultant oenologist (Thomas Duclot) who favors wines that are not overly demonstrative, early harvesting and measured extractions to preserve the freshness of the fruit, less new wood (55%) and the use of tuns and jars (20%) to lighten the tannic structure...

Since the construction of the new winery in 2023, the wines have excelled thanks to their elegant, uncluttered structure, their gourmet, fruity and floral aromas, and their dynamic, sapid finishes. For the Revue du Vin de France, as for us, “this is the archetypal Bordeaux that can be enjoyed now, but also put away in the cellar”.

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 98-100/100 "The 2025 Beau-Séjour Bécot has all the requisites to take its place alongside the 2022 and the other extraordinary wines of 2025. Aromatic and layered, with striking presence, the 2025 is majestic. Deep, dark red fruit, pomegranate, mint, chalk, white pepper, rose petal and lavender soar from the glass. Bright saline notes drive through the mid-palate and into a finish marked by intense fruit and vibrant minerality. The purity here is just off the charts. There are good wines, exceptional wines, and then emotional wines. Beau-Séjour Bécot falls into the third category. Unforgettable."

J-M Quarin : 97/100 “Hints of strawberry. Delicate on the palate at first, very, very aromatic in the mid-palate, with a rich texture; the wine develops into a complex, deep, noble, precise and very flavourful wine. A lovely, rounded finish.”

Bettane+Desseauve : 96/100 “The wine’s vitality gives it a silky, floral character and an almost Burgundian charm. Its freshness bursts forth in a chalky finish that is very true to the terroir. A real favourite.”

Vinous (N. Martin) : 94-96/100 "Mineral-rich black and red fruit, clearly limestone-driven, touches of graphite and briny scents emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid red fruit, mainly raspberry with some white-tipped strawberry. Like others, the limestone really comes through in this wine that could almost be described as "rocky". Linear and correct on the finish, again, it will gain more flesh during its barrel maturation and it will become an extremely fine and classy Saint-Émilion."

La Revue du Vin de France : 94-95/100 “20% Cabernet Franc. The nose is characterised by small berries and delicate floral notes. The palate is refined, reflecting the rocky terroir with prominent chalky tannins that do not dry out, and a fresh raspberry acidity. Good length.”

Exceptional terroir of 4 hectares on a south-facing slope (like Pavie) at the entrance to the village of Saint-Émilion. Taken over in 2014 by the Vauthier family (Ausone), who is committed to highlighting the deep, juicy flesh of her grapes, with a confounding naturalness and a splendid aromatic radiance. La Clotte has everything it takes to quickly become one of the most cult wines of the appellation.

J-M Quarin: 95/100 “A deep, intense, vivid colour with bluish highlights. A very aromatic, refined, fruity and pure nose. Juicy and flavourful on the palate, with a very elegant development and plenty of flavour from the mid-palate through to the finish. A long, deep finish.”

Bettane+Desseauve : 94/100 “Red berries, dark fruits, floral notes and delicate chalky undertones combine to create a harmonious bouquet. The palate is full-bodied, taut and long-lasting, making an elegant impression.”

Vinous (A. Galloni): 93-95/100 “The 2025 La Clotte is a powerful, layered wine that needs a few minutes in the glass to open. Lifted floral and savory overtones meld into a core of dark red cherry fruit, mocha, new leather, menthol, licorice and dried herbs. Bright saline notes follow, shaping the mid-palate and finish nicely. This needs time to unwind, but there's a lot of wine here. Gorgeous."

Vinous (N. Martin): 92-94/100 “The 2025 La Clotte [...] is quite subtle on the nose, demanding a little more coaxing than usual, delivering lovely violet scents that merge with the black cherry and blueberry fruit. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins. Perhaps on the mid-palate there is a veneer of new oak that will be subsumed during the élevage and barrel maturation. Moderate length, this is a fine Saint-Émilion from the Vauthier family (again)."

Advised by Mr. Derenoncourt, Clos Fourtet regularly and unobtrusively demonstrates that the upper part of the Saint-Émilion plateau can produce wines as great as the Ausone or Pavie hillsides. Sobriety, depth, finesse and intensity are exemplary.

J-M Quarin: 97/100 “Deep black color. Intense, refined, fruity, and pure on the nose. Hints of black fruit, licorice, and fig. Southern character when swirled in the glass. Full-bodied on the attack, smooth on the mid-palate, and very fresh as well, with a rich texture; the wine melts on the palate starting from the mid-palate. It finishes long and flavorful, with a juicy, slightly firm but well-rounded finish.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 96-98/100 "The 2025 Clos Fourtet is elegant, polished and super refined. Bracing mineral notes cut through a core of dark red and blue-toned fruit. Spice, mocha, new leather and licorice all meld together. Seamless and profoundly elegant, the 2025 impresses with its sensual personality, soft contours and magnificent balance. Time in the glass brings out touches of blood orange and white pepper that lend explosive brilliance through to the gorgeous, sustained finish.[...] The 2025 is positively stellar. Tasted two times. Grand Vin."

Bettane+Desseauve : 96/100 “The concentration of flavour is matched by a remarkable tactile elegance. The fruit shines through, the tannins are silky, and the impressive length and mineral finish lend the wine a true sense of grandeur.”

La Revue du Vin de France : 94-97/100 “Clos Fourtet stands out for its particularly elegant bouquet – a basket of black fruits – and a hint of mineral notes. A wine full of harmony and energy. The velvety tannins complement its enveloping texture.”

Vinous (N. Martin) : 94-96/100 "The 2025 Clos Fourtet [...] has a bright nose, a mélange of red and black fruit, orange rind and touches of crushed stone emanating from the limestone. The palate is medium-bodied, with succulent ripe tannins, leaning more towards red fruit on the mid-palate. Subtle touches of graphite and white pepper emerge towards the citrus-fresh finish, with commendable length, gentle grip and satisfying sustain. This is a great Clos Fourtet that should age well in bottle."

Second wine of Angelus, made in the same luxurious and distinguished style that has made the reputation and international success of this wine.

    See the data sheet

J-M Quarin : 95/100 “A hint of truffle. Full-bodied on the palate, very, very flavourful in the mid-palate, with a lovely texture and a build-up of flavour between the mid-palate and the finish; the wine finishes long, powerful and deep. It is superb in terms of energy and richness.”

Bettane+Desseauve : 93-94/100 “Full-bodied and velvety, the superb palate offers structure, balance and a delicately peppery finish.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 91-93/100 "The 2025 Le Carillon d'Angélus is another gorgeous wine from the De Bouärd family. Dark-fleshed fruit, leather, incense and licorice convey somber intensity. This is far from an easygoing wine. Readers should plan on cellaring this for at least a few years, as it is quite potent in the early going. Gravel and lavender develop toward the long, beautifully resonant finish."

Vinous (N. Martin) : 91-93/100 "The 2025 Le Carillon d'Angélus is raised in 50% new oak, 25% used barrel and 25% in stainless-steel vat. It has a well-defined and focused bouquet with blackberry, blueberry, light oyster shell/estuarine scents that lend another dimension (these were accentuated by the thinner Riedel glass that I requested). The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, well balanced, a tad more tension than the No. 3, with more depth on the finish. Gentle grip, quite linear in style, but there is satisfying persistency on the finish. Very fine."

In 2012, Haut-Brion bought and combined two grands crus classés (Tertre-Dauguay and L'Arrosée) on the slopes of Saint-Émilion (Côte Ausone), and put a foot in the right bank, called Quintus because it is their fifth property (after Haut-Brion, La Mission HB, Laville HB and Latour HB).

Their first objective is to make fine, long wines, focusing on freshness and delicacy rather than power or density, more typical of the left bank than the right bank.

Second objective: to shine in the next Saint-Emilion classifications (its immediate neighbours are Ausone, Belair-Monange, Angélus and Canon, all 1st classified grands crus).

    See the data sheet

J-M Quarin : 97/100 “Hints of blackberry and vanilla. Extremely delicate on the attack, very, very flavourful on the mid-palate, with a subtle richness that coats the palate; the wine develops into a juicy and intensely aromatic finish that retains all its qualities. This final third of the palate is simply magnificent. It’s incredible!”

Bettane+Desseauve : 95-96/100 “Morello cherry and pepper give rise to a mouth-watering bouquet. The Cabernet Francs add depth to the palate and create a complex finish. A very promising Quintus that is increasingly reflecting its exceptional terroir.”

Vinous (N. Martin) : 92-94/100 "The 2025 Quintus [...] has the most opulent bouquet from Domaine Clarence Dillon, with lavish black cherries, cassis and blood orange scents, and a big bunch of violets developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte, smooth tannins. A little lower in acidity, yet it maintains balance and comes armed with a seductive, dark chocolate-tinged finish that is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Very luxuriant."

A small estate located near Troplong-Mondot and Valandraud, acquired in 2009 by Jacques Thienpont (already owner of Ch. Le Pin). A wine that is as exceptional as it is confidential (6 hectares)!

    See the technical sheet

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 97-99/100 "The 2025 L'If is a total stunner. It's like no other vintage I have tasted thus far, perhaps because of the high percentage (25%) of Cabernet Franc. Chalk, mint, white pepper, blood orange and jasmine are some of the many notes that gradually open in the glass. A saline edge shapes the brisk mid-palate and brilliant, chiseled finish. Magnificent. The best L'If to date."

J-M Quarin : 97/100 “Delicate on the palate at first, very, very aromatic in the mid-palate, with a rich texture; the wine melts on the palate, juicy and flavourful, with just a hint of oak. Excellent length.”

Bettane+Desseauve : 95-96/100 “Dark and red fruits create a deep bouquet. Dense yet light on the palate, it finishes with a velvety, lingering aftertaste of refined elegance.”

La Revue du Vin de France : 93-94/100 “Typical of the La Mondotte appellation, L’If is more mineral than fruity. It has a refined texture and restrained power, with a tangy freshness and fine, well-integrated tannins, prolonged by a chalky intensity, with very subtle aromas and hints of orchard fruit and blackcurrants.”

Vinous (N. Martin) : 92-94/100 "The 2025 L'If is a mélange of red and blueberry fruit on the nose, hints of iris flower and just a hint of blood orange. Fine definition, quite understated in style. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy tannins on the entry, citrus-fresh and the limestone element shapes the profile on the finish. Bright acids, very tensile. It will be fascinating to revisit this L'If after bottling."

Purchased in 1996 by the Chanel group (also in Rauzan-Ségla), Canon required a complete restoration, both of the vines and the cellar/vat room tool. Since 2008, Canon has fully justified its status as a 1er grand cru classé, with brilliant, distinguished wines that draw their energy from the Cabernets francs at the top of the limestone plateau.

    See the technical sheet

J-M Quarin: 100/100 “Deep black colour. An intense, refined, fruity and, above all, profound nose—the same depth found in Latour or Cheval Blanc. Hints of fresh black fruit. A base note of blackberries. The wine becomes more floral, more refined and even more beautiful when the glass is swirled. Full-bodied on the attack, bursting with fruit on the mid-palate, with a classy texture, and suddenly, a change of pace in the development; the wine gains body and offers extraordinary depth of flavour, whilst remaining measured and smooth. Immense, complex length, brilliant and bursting with fruit. It’s magical. ”

Terre de Vins : 99-100/100 Coup de   "Is 2025 the perfect vintage for Canon to fully express its identity? It’s hard to say, given how consistently impressive the estate is year after year, but there’s no denying that here, it ticks all the boxes for ‘Canon’s DNA’: that silky density, that airy, powdery bouquet, that mineral verticality, that precision in both the aromatic brilliance and the chalky texture – these are all hallmarks that signify the greatness of this wine. Everything is in balance, and there is subtlety too in the definition of its many facets; once again, it stands at the top of the podium, floral, luminous, Apollonian.”

Bettane+Desseauve : 97/100 “The tannins, which are bright from the first sip right through to the finish, burst forth on the palate with rare subtlety. The finish seems to go on forever: this wine will rank among the finest of the vintage.”

La Revue du Vin de France : 96-98/100 “A wine destined to become a legend at the estate. The nose is exquisitely refined, with hints of sweet spices. The balance on the palate is remarkable, both for its ability to convey the site’s distinctive limestone character with intensity, and for the quality of its fruity texture, enhanced by the remarkable tannins provided by the 24% Cabernet Franc. The finish is of the highest calibre, both in its persistence and its complexity.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 98-100/100 "The 2025 Canon is a total stunner. Deep and sumptuous in the glass, it offers tons of the vintage's textural intensity along with all the vibrant, saline energy that is such a signature here. Dark-fleshed fruit, mocha, new leather, herbs and dried flowers build gradually in the glass, leading to a huge, dramatic finish laced with hints of blood orange, pomegranate and chalk. The interplay of finesse and power is dazzling."

Vinous (N. Martin): 96-98/100 "The 2025 Canon was picked between August 28 and September 18 at 40 hl/ha. This is very pure and refined on the nose, with wonderful delineation, not as flattering as, say, the 2015 or 2019 at this stage, yet very focused and mineral-driven. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, quite sapid, with a pinch of cracked black pepper. Like its "sister", Berliquet, the limestone terroir comes through and seems to "tingle" on the finish. Maybe not a crowd-pleaser, but I like its uncompromising nature that reflects its place of birth"

Troplong-Mondot and its formidable terroir dominate Saint-Émilion both literally (the commune's water tower adjoins the winery) and figuratively. Led by Aymeric de Gironde (formerly of Pichon-Baron and Cos d'Estournel) and benefiting from generous investment from reinsurer SCOR since 2016, Troplong-Mondot shines brightly, producing wines that are consistently fresh, flavourful and refined despite their high concentration.

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 97-99/100 "The 2025 Troplong Mondot is one of the most finessed wines I have ever tasted here. Dark, ample and explosive, with mind-blowing purity, the 2025 simply has it all. Hints of dried herbs, chocolate, menthol, licorice and blackberry infuse the wine with remarkable concentration and pure power. Even with all its natural richness, the 2025 is not at all heavy. A totally stunning Saint-Émilion, Troplong Mondot is very clearly one of the wines of the vintage."

Bettane+Desseauve : 97/100 “Blackcurrant, cedar and smoky notes open up an intense bouquet. The concentrated palate unfolds gracefully, with a perfectly balanced richness. A great success in this vintage.”

Vinous (N. Martin) : 96-98/100 "The 2025 Troplong Mondot is has a very intense bouquet with black cherries, cassis and iris flower scents, and a hint of inkwell. Very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, plenty of tension and minéralité. Vivacious and yet linear and correct, it delivers plenty of fruit but in a very controlled fashion. You can feel the tongue tingling on the finish. Classy and sophisticated, this will rank as one of the finest Troplong Mondots to date."

La Revue du Vin de France : 94-96/100 “It plunges into the local clay soils, with an intense mineral character, all delivered with aromatic precision and well-defined tannins. The texture is full-bodied and airy, with a crisp sensation, prolonged by an intense chalky salinity and hints of dried herbs.”

Self-taught, Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife Murielle got their start in the Bordeaux vineyards when they bought a tiny 0.6 hectare plot in Saint-Émilion, near Pavie-Macquin. Produced in minute quantities, vinified with the means at hand but with meticulous care, Valandraud soon made a name for itself, to the point of giving rise to the 'garage wine' movement in the 1990s.

Now boasting nearly 11 hectares of vineyards on the cooler limestone soils of Saint-Etienne de Lisse (on the eastern edge of the appellation) and a bioclimatic winery enabling gravity-fed vinification, Valandraud is a first growth in its own right, sharing the hedonistic, indulgent style of Troplong-Mondot.

    See the technical sheet

J-M Quarin : 98/100 “Delicate on the palate at first, incredibly aromatic on the mid-palate, with a refined richness that coats the palate, the wine develops into a juicy, noble and powerful wine, with some of the most nuanced tannins ever seen in this vintage. A powerful yet flavourful wine.”

Bettane+Desseauve : 97-98/100 “A dizzyingly deep bouquet, a creamy, silky attack, and deep, fresh tannins: it remains true to its hedonistic style whilst gaining in refinement.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 96-99/100 "The 2025 Valandraud is breathtaking. Itsthe first vintage made by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Marie Lefévère together. It therefore represents a changing of the guard, now that Lefévère and her husband, Christophe, have taken full ownership of the property after many years holding a minority stake. Vibrant and explosive in the glass, the 2025 Valandraud offers an exotic mélange of dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and mocha. There's gorgeous precision here, much of that coming from more finesse in the tannins. The 2025 is utterly magnificent."

Vinous (N. Martin) : 94-96/100 "The 2025 Valandraud [...] has an intense nose with black cherry, cassis and violet scents, more bold than the Virginie de Valandraud but perhaps slightly less delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, very well balanced with good depth of fruit, spicier than the Virginie towards the finish. Good grip, more than the Virginie, this will require three to five years in bottle, but it has great potential."

La Revue du Vin de France : 93-95/100 "A slight shift in style, becoming more refined whilst retaining the smoothness on the mid-palate and velvety tannins. The overall impression is a real success, thanks to the increased brightness of the fruit."

Become a first grand cru classé in 2012, just reward for 20 years of effort by Mr. Neipperg (Canon-La Gaffelière, Clos de l'Oratoire) on this small vineyard of 4.5 ha adjoining Troplong-Mondot. A very large Saint-Émilion, fleshy, intense and penetrating, but with a confidential production.

    See the technical sheet

Bettane+Desseauve : 96/100 “Dark fruits, violets and a hint of pepper combine to create a deep bouquet. The addition of 30% Cabernet Franc adds complexity and a lively finish.”

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 95-97/100 "The 2025 La Mondotte is powerful yet understated. A rush of black cherry, lavender, sage, menthol, licorice and espresso conveys tons of intensity. Gravel, scorched earth and dried herbs add classic Mondotte savory and mineral dimensions. Broad, chocolatey tannins support the explosive mid-palate and finish. This really sizzles with limestone-infused energy."

Vinous (N. Martin) : 93-95/100 "The 2025 La Mondotte comes from vines planted in the 1930s, with some recent plantings of Cabernet Franc added in this vintage. Another change is the use of 12-hectolitre foudres. This has an engaging, delineated bouquet with mineral-rich black fruit, hints of graphite and tobacco in the background, much more classical in style compared with earlier vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. Lovely texture, tensile and edgy, with a brisk, peppery finish that fans out with style. This is a sophisticated La Mondotte that should age gracefully."

A little gem of 6.8 hectares in a single block, perched atop the limestone hillside following Ausone and Belair-Monange and ahead of Canon, Beauséjour J. Duffau-Lagarosse remains the most understated of the Premier Grands Crus Classés. Owned by the Duffau-Lagarosse family since 1847, the estate began a new chapter in 2021 with the arrival at its helm of a young, committed female duo: Prisca Courtin, granddaughter of the founder of Clarins cosmetics, and Joséphine Duffau-Lagarosse, the ninth generation of this historic family. Together, they are breathing new life into the estate, with the ambition of fully revealing the potential of this exceptional limestone terroir, considered one of the purest, most subtle and delicate expressions of the Grand Coteau de Saint-Émilion.

    See the technical sheet

Terre de Vins : 98-99/100 Coup de   "The nose is enticing, with notes of cherries, ranging from pigeon’s heart to morello cherries. Hints of mint and violet also contribute to this noble bouquet. The attack is very flavourful and the tannins finally emerge with a lively, sap-like character. The wine dances on the palate and the black fruits are joined by red fruits, with a floral character, violet leading the way. This blend of 31% Cabernet Franc – which provides structure – and 69% Merlot – which charms – marks a milestone at Beauséjour, with an approachability in its youth. This distinctiveness does not detract from its ageing potential, for this wine is impressive in its balance and tension."

J-M Quarin: 97/100 “Intense, vivid, purple colour. Very aromatic, pure, fruity and slightly truffle-like on the nose, developing complex and deep aromas when swirled in the glass. Extremely delicate on the attack, very flavourful on the mid-palate, with a rich texture and a lovely fruity brightness; the wine melts on the palate, long, noble and full of flavour. A delicious wine that gives an impression of restraint.”

La Revue du Vin de France : 96-97/100 "A superbly composed wine, both in terms of aroma and texture. It impresses with its refinement and the delicacy of its floral and fruity aromas. The mineral finish is remarkable, highlighting striking tannic quality and a rare fruity precision. The texture is full, harmonious and luminous.

Vinous (A. Galloni): 95-97/100 “The 2025 Beauséjour J. Duffau-Lagarrosse is a fabulous, contemporary Saint-Émilion. Notes of lavender, rose petal and mocha lift the effortless bouquet. Silky tannins and deceptively mid-weight structure are some of the signatures. Stylistically, Beauséjour is one of the most aromatic, understated wines in Saint-Émilion. Bright red-toned fruit, spice and pomegranate unfold with time in the glass.”

Bettane+Desseauve : 96/100 "The precision of the body is complemented by a texture of great delicacy. Electric tannins, peppery floral notes and a delicate cherry finish combine to create a moving wine."

Vinous (N. Martin): 94-96/100 “The 2025 Beauséjour J. Duffau-Lagarrosse [...] has a very nuanced bouquet with pure Morello cherry, blueberry and cassis fruit, violet and iris emerging with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins, similar to those found on the Left Bank this year, edgy and tensile, energetic and certainly translating the limestone soils, hints of shucked oyster shell emerging with time. Finely balanced with impressive length, in some ways this is an uncompromising Saint-Émilion that is all about the terroir. Linear towards the finish, this will fill out, gain a bit of flesh during its élevage and it should require maybe three or four years in bottle before it's ready to rock 'n roll.”

On a subsoil of deep gravel (alluvium of the Isle), Figeac has logically opted for a grape variety more Medoc than Libourne: 70% Cabernet (half Sauvignon and half Franc), 30% Merlot. Hence a naturalness, a freshness and a distinction unparalleled in Saint-Emilion. The latest 2022 classification has rightly corrected the omission of the previous one by granting Figeac the title of 1er grand cru classé A.

    See the technical sheet

Bettane+Desseauve : 98/100 “A Figeac of remarkable precision, with notes of blueberry, peony and warm stone giving way to a concentrated, finely crafted and endlessly lingering palate. Magnificent!”

J-M Quarin: 98/100 “A deep, intense red colour with black highlights. A very aromatic and refined nose. Hints of blackberries, raspberries and violets. This floral character intensifies when the glass is swirled. Meticulous on the attack, particularly flavourful on the palate, with its classic grace on the palate, the wine melts away, flooding the palate with fruit. Very slowly, it builds towards a long, fragrant and succulent finish. It’s superb!”

Vinous (N. Martin): 96-98/100 “The Cabernet components shape the aromatics at the moment, with a mixture of blackberry and wild strawberry fruit, touches of tobacco and dark powdered chocolate, all very precise and, if anything, remarkably understated considering the warmth of that summer. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine, slightly granular tannins. Darker fruit than normal, nicely structured, linear and correct, this is a Figeac that veers towards the more elegant side in Saint-Émilion. Just a touch of bitterness on the finish neatly counterbalances the contained opulence. If it ends up at the top of my banded score, I would not be surprised."

Vinous (A. Galloni): 96-98/100 “The 2025 Figeac is a powerful, deeply structured wine. Dark-fleshed fruit, mocha, incense, scorched earth, tobacco and grilled herbs soar across the palate in a towering Figeac of the highest level. All the elements are so well balanced. A season marked by very gradual ripening yielded an especially aromatic, perfumed Grand Vin.”

La Revue du Vin de France : 96-98/100 “Figeac 2025 is a quiet force. It surprises with its delicacy, harmony and class, reminding us that the Cabernets are outstanding this year (here, 62% of the blend). The modest 13% ABV highlights elements of rare integration.”

Brilliant even in small vintages (1992 was a masterpiece), Angélus has become a world star in 20 years by producing dense, fleshy and superbly velvety wines while remaining distinguished.
    Great class!

    See the data sheet

J-M Quarin : 99/100 “Juicy on the palate, intensely aromatic in the mid-palate, with a slow yet powerful development; the wine melts on the palate. It has a long finish—firm, certainly, but very persistent.”

Terre de Vins : 98-99/100 Coup de   "A perfect balance between Cabernet Franc and Merlot in the blend of this Angélus 2025, which harmoniously combines velvety smoothness and freshness, structure and depth. A masterclass in style: vibrancy, vigour, and perfectly balanced concentration; it is a textbook example of elegance, sensuality and energy, unfolding its juiciness with length and vitality. Creamy, tactile texture, silky-smooth tannins, and a finish with a hint of zest and powdery notes – it is a work of art. Angélus continues its superb evolution."

Bettane+Desseauve : 98/100 "Blended in equal parts from Cabernet Franc and Merlot, this Angélus is a true masterpiece. With brilliant tannins, peppery floral notes, pure fruit and an ethereal finish, it is a moving, great wine."

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 95-97+/100 "The 2025 Angélus is a superb contemporary Grand Vin. Aromatic, vibrant and wonderfully fresh, the 2025 dazzles from start to finish. Blood orange, mint, white pepper, rose petal and chalk weave through layers of vibrant red-toned fruit. Here, too, the Grand Vin impresses with its noble purity and understated grace. "

Vinous (N. Martin) : 95-97/100 "The bouquet opens with blackberry, raspberry, light cassis scents and a touch of iodine, well defined, the oak seated politely in the background. The palate is silky smooth with filigree tannins, very well judged acidity plus palpable underlying sapid notes that come through towards the finish. Fine tension, very focused with a very persistent aftertaste, this is an Angélus with great potential and it should give 25 to 30 years' drinking pleasure."

Neither quite Saint-Émilion nor quite Pomerol, the inimitable Cheval Blanc occupies a special place on the right bank, on the famous gravelly terroir of the Figeac plateau. Inimitable because its wines subjugate in a perfect alchemy between freshness, subtlety and hedonism, the whole on tannic frames at the same time refined and melting, between silk and cashmere.

A local showcase. Since the 2023 vintage, Cheval-Blanc has adopted an eco-designed case produced locally in Aquitaine, making the most of the region’s resources: the case is made from maritime pine sourced from the Landes forest, and each bottle is protected by a woven wool sleeve that shields the wine from knocks and temperature fluctuations during transport.

J-M Quarin : 100/100 "Deep red in color, with vivid purple and black highlights. Intense, refined, fruity, and subtle on the nose. Extremely delicate on the initial palate, with a refined richness that coats the palate and a slow, gradual, melting evolution where the structure builds up gradually, delivering a wealth of flavors; the wine soars into a complex and noble finish that is magical and impossible to spit out. I am impressed by such aromatic power for such a low alcohol content: 12.7%, the lowest since 2009. [...] Truly exceptional!”

Terre de Vins : 98-99/100 Coup de   "This is a Cheval Blanc at its most serious, almost reserved at first glance, with its usual ethereal bouquet appearing slightly more ‘grounded’ than usual. The structure is remarkably cohesive, framed by very well-defined tannins of great elegance. There are many successive layers in this wine, which unfolds with subtlety; its structured body is not overly sweet (only 12.7% alcohol) but stretches with finesse over this tannic framework of great pedigree: it enhances the vigour, the muscular and invigorating aspect of the wine. It will be fascinating to follow over time.”

La Revue du Vin de France : 98-99/100 "Perhaps the bottle of the vintage. The 2025 highlights the exceptional quality of the tannins found at the estate, thanks in particular to its concentration on the mid-palate and the purity of its texture, brought to the fore by its moderate alcohol content (12.7%). With an almost charismatic presence, this athletic and refined expression of the vintage offers the quintessence of Cheval Blanc, making it perhaps one of its finest interpretations of the decade.

Bettane+Desseauve : 97-98/100 "Water stress has reduced the volume but built up the body. Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon bring concentration and vibrancy, whilst Merlot adds silkiness. Blackberry, dried flowers, peony and iris linger on the palate with unflagging grace."

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 96-99/100 "A wine of mystery and seduction, the 2025 dazzles. Time in the glass brings out the wine's tension and energy. Sage, mint, lavender, cloves and cool, blue-toned fruit all build in the glass. [...] In many vintages Cheval Blanc can be exuberant, but the 2025 is rather closed, more of an intellectual wine that will require years in bottle to truly show everything it has to offer."

Vinous (N.Martin) : 95-97/100 "A more reserved and structured Cheval Blanc than usual, vertical in style, the Cabernet Franc driving the finish. Not what I would call a sensual Cheval Blanc, but it has a distinctive character. Not everyone is going to fall head over heels for this Cheval Blanc because it is uncompromising, and I like that. Just be patient. This will need time."

Ausone masterfully expresses all the glory of Cabernet Franc on limestone slopes. Alain Vauthier, now assisted by his children, has always managed Ausone's 7 hectares like a (very) grand cru Burgundy: row by row, even vine by vine. It is impossible to resist the indescribable complexity of Ausone's bouquet, floral and fruity, spicy and liquorice-like, as well as the incredible depth of its fresh and sumptuous finish. Masterful!

    See the technical sheet

Bettane+Desseauve : 99/100 "With its unique blend, this Ausone marks a turning point. Peony, wild strawberry, Kampot pepper and mineral notes combine to create a fine wine that is delicate, chalky and silky, and built to age for many years."

J-M Quarin : 98/100 “Delicate on the palate from the very first sip, with a subtle richness that coats the palate, the wine is smooth, juicy, meticulous and sophisticated. After the mid-palate, it rises to a finish with a touch of positive austerity. Excellent length.”

La Revue du Vin de France : 96-98/100 "Ausone makes the most of its limestone terroir, delivering a depth and a level of finesse that are rare. With 65% Cabernet Franc, the tannins are perfectly delicate, with a remarkable length reminiscent of elderflower. As the 2025 vintage has yielded a single label, the second wine, Chapelle d’Ausone, will not be produced this year.

Vinous (N. Martin) : 96-98/100 "The 2025 Ausone represents the entirety of the vineyard this year after trial blends convinced the Vauthiers not to make a Chapelle d’Ausone. There is also 5% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend for the first time. Almost immediately, I noticed how that soupçon of Cabernet Sauvignon tilts the style of the Grand Vin in a different and, to my mind, positive direction. Beautifully defined, a little more sapid, perhaps just a tad less precocious than usual, there is a sense of classicism in this Ausone that I admire, terroir over growing season perhaps? The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, real depth, silky smooth, with layers of blackberry and raspberry fruit and hints of white pepper and clove. Very long, with a peacock's tail on the finish, this is a fascinating and alluring Ausone that will age with style."

Vinous (A. Galloni) : 95-97/100 "The 2025 Ausone is powerful, dense and packed to the core. Readers will have to be patient with the 2025, as it is quite reticent. Time in the glass brings out hints of blood orange, rose petal, mint and raspberry jam. It will be fascinating to see how the 2025 ages."
