Even if they have exceptional ageing potential, we recommend tasting Sauternes from their earliest youth.
They do not have tannic astringency and their aromatic complexity is therefore fabulous!

The white wine of Smith Haut Lafitte has built up a solid reputation over the last 10 years, even if it is not a grand cru classé (but Haut-Brion blanc and Pape-Clément blanc are not either). A happy marriage of wood and fruit, it always delivers a beautiful aromatic complexity, from lime blossom to citrus, and a lively, rich and fine structure. 2017 was rated 19/20 by the Revue du Vin de France "one of the most complete and accomplished wines ever tasted. The depth, complexity of flavor and length are truly impressive. It will go very far".
Rated 19/20 by Revue du Vin de France « l’un des plus complets et aboutis jamais dégustés. D’une profondeur, d’une complexité de saveur et d’une allonge vraiment impressionnants. Il ira très loin ».
Rated 94/100 by Neal Martin « There is plenty of energy here, perhaps even more than the following vintage. [...] This is very focused and full of tension, the finish quite saline with impressive persistency. » (Feb. 2020)
Rated 96/100 by Antonio Galloni « The 2017 Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc is very clearly one of the wines of the vintage. [...] Citrus peel, white flowers and mint are all generous in the glass. More than that, the 2017 offers an interplay of tension and textural opulence that is incredibly appealing. » (March 2020)

Second wine of Rieussec, created in 2002. Expressive and seductive - flowers, white peach, honey - on a body that is half sweet but very elegant (terroir obliges). The Sauternes affair, its market price being even lower than its production cost!

Tasty 2016 vintage, with a nice refreshing vivacity (fresh pineapple).

Straddling Barsac and Sauternes, Haut-Bergeron enjoys a quality terroir superbly exploited by the Lamothe family for 9 generations (!). It is the artisanal cru and the sure value of Sauternes, of which each vintage wins its share of awards in competitions and guides (2016 gold medal Brussels and Paris, 2015 gold medal Frankfurt, 2013 coup de coeur Hachette, etc.).

Doisy-Daëne is never the sweetest wine in its sector, but it always has an unparalleled aromatic expression and refinement. A pure Barsac, brilliantly orchestrated by Denis Dubourdieu (deceased in 2016).

Re-tasted 10 years later by the Revue du Vin de France, it is rated 18/20 " a perfume of pastries and candied lemon precedes a lively mouth. After an opening night, still as lively as ever, it amplifies its mineral Barsac lengthening".
A great terroir (exactly between Yquem and Lafaurie-Peyraguey), in the hands of an expert winemaker (Pierre Meslier was Yquem's manager from 1963 to 1990). Raymond-Lafon, is with de Fargues, the other great absent from the 1855 ranking.
A small vineyard of 14 ha in one piece and ideally exposed to the south, Sigalas Rabaud produces wines with a liquor that is both full and highly refined.
As in 2007, with a generous wine, of great pace and extreme finesse for the vintage.
Vintage 2002 elaborated by its former owner Mrs Langlois-Pauly (bought in 2012 by Mr Magrez). Honeyed and unctuous, it owes its tonicity to its aromas of bitter orange peel and to the happy acidity that underpins it.
The 2014 vintage proves that its style, a perfect balance between power and delicacy, has not changed.
Administered by the Rothschilds (Mouton) since 1996, Coutet has joined the leading pack of the biggest Sauternes after Yquem. Like Climens, it is a true Barsac, pure and remarkably subtle, but with a more marked liquor. Since 2005, Coutet has been in great shape! Rated 19/20 by the Revue du Vin de France in 2017 and 19.5/20 in 2016.

The arrival of Mr. Denz in 2014 has restored all its luster to this 1er cru classé de Bommes, a perfect synthesis between the elegance and distinction of Barsac and the richness and power of the Haut-Sauternes region.
Property Rothschild (de Lafite). Contiguous to Yquem, Rieussec is one of the sweetest wines of the Sauternes region, revealing itself only after at least 10 years in the cellar. Evolving from 2013 onwards towards a more elegant, even delicate style, Rieussec magnificently combines richness and finesse. Proof of this is its 2016, described by M. Quarin as "the great return of Rieussec among the great sweet wines of the Gironde", rated 93/100.
